The Lake

This is a pretty n familiar sight seen after reaching my destination on my recent road trip. I've visited this place since I was a little girl with my family on yearly summer vacations to visit my paternal grandfather, aunts, uncles, n cousins.

The old camp which began as a one room log shack without amenities evolved into a pretty A-frame with running water n electricity. My Gramps lived there every summer but had to winter in town, n then eventually at my parents house near Boston.

I didn't visit the old camp, this trip. Just stopped at a nearby rest area here to think, eat lunch, n relax a bit before I had to be somewhere back in town.

That peak seen in the distance over the little lake marina is Mount Katadin in Baxter State Park. My recently deceased uncle n his wife, who died several years ago at this lake, once led my two girls n me on a wild hike toward the mountain in search of moose sightings.

The park trails we went up were unspoiled, beautiful, n green. We stepped over stones thru the water, went around several lake shores, n saw some moose in the distance. In those days I carried a manual SLR with a 200mm lens  camera around my neck. I remember being afraid of breaking the cam on the rough terrain at some points of the hike.

That day I didn't take alot of pics, but the one of my aunt n uncle I took at the park's large, mural painted, rock sign made it to the memorial pic collage, n brought back that wonderful day's memory. I'd gotten double prints when developed by mail, n sent them out with Xmas cards. Tho my face didn't make it into the memorial pic collection, I was represented by several that I remembered taking n giving out later. Another was the one of my Gramps n his four sons taken at the camp when they were still all alive n well. Some pics can really make my day, especially when shared n appreciated as they were lovingly gazed at by all those attending.

There's no way I could drive all the way up there n not be compelled to go see that lake, even tho it added more distance to the long ride, n was unnessisary. I also can't resist taking some pics, even if I have taken similar ones so long ago. Things change, n also I want to chronicle how it made me feel to see that sight...

I had occasion to travel to northern Maine for a couple of days to say  good-bye to one of my favorite people. These Meese n bears were located at the bigger travel stops along the way. They are huge n pose alot better than the real ones.

In two days I drove 830 miles, drank a gallon of coffee (I normally don't drink it), n had no sleep until after getting back home, so I'm not feeling too hot. Well at least the weather is nice n not hot too. Tired is an understatement.

Having an allergy attack also, the eyes sting- So I'm taking a benedryl rest recovery day now before returning to the grind.
No one even noticed I was awol... except the Meese-

Marina

It was another roasty, toasty day outdoors, The kind that make me wish when I'd had more money many years ago, I'd sprung for a little boat to paddle about the coves in to escape to the coolest place. It's not particularly quiet on the water these days. This place is crowded with craft, n the motor-cycles of the sea, loud jet-ski s are all over now.

There's this one really loud guy who lands at the ramp nearby on week-ends, I can hear him from here barking orders at some poor boat slave person like they're dirt. If he spoke to me like that I'd be squirting him in the ear... Even the neighbors were seen rolling their eyes at the dudes audacity.

Here's pics of the little marina right down the street. There are certainly some beautiful vessels parked there. I wonder who owns the large, speedy Ciggarrette boat with the red cover. The guy I used to work for repairing outboards used to own this place way back before I moved to this part of town.

I'll never forget the half a year I spent restoring a v-hull boat, patching fiberglass, painting, remaking wood seats, redoing the steering n gear cable systems, n the motor, all because that boss said it was mine n I could have it. One day tho, I discovered he sold my boat, n I didn't get a penny for it, because he couldn't refuse the offer he got. That's when I decided to stop wasting my time helping him. I really wanted that boat, n he dissappointed me.

Then there was the other reason, that when guys came over to do work, they would get more money than me, tho I knew what to tell them to do n they had no clue, plus they didn't put any tools back where they went (4 benches) n I had to pick it up. I don't take that crumby treatment well at all-

Of course now I don't have time or access to the tools needed to do that work, n still crave the boat. Too bad there's always some other more pressing issue keeping me from that dream. Someday...
Time for ice cream!

Yellow n Orange

Image by SnaggleTooth July 2012 Image by SnaggleTooth July 2012

Pics were all taken on a recent walk around the village while picking-up the mail.

These beautiful, large Lillies peeked thru the chain link fence on my way uptown. I had a pink Lilly out on the deck last week, saved in a pot which never bloomed last year, but the pic wasn't great.

Most of the time my pics on ESR make it appear like a rural uncrowded olace, but that's only because I intentionally leave out the clutter of civilization around the subjects. This large planter of marigolds near the Post office is an example.

These Tiger Lillies I transplanted next to Maplebeard out front several years ago. The sunlight detailed them perfectly for the pic. I spied them as I was approaching home from the opposite direction.

I'm starting to get Trumpet Flowers out in the side-yard now. Many of the vines came down in last September's Hurricane Irene. I'm hoping the one in a deck container may bloom for the first time finally. It was transplanted the same year as the Vincia about a dozen years ago

I do take quite a few plant pics, but my cam doesn't like close-ups, n often blossoms definition n detail gets very washed out. These came out ok for such bright colors for a change. Then I changed them anyway...

Timing

Photo by SnaggleTooth July 11 2012
So glad to get the Day Off... Altho still feeling wiped out after sleeping late, I still got the work laundry washed n hanging out. Major work done- yay! I let Mischief out on the deck for the first time all week. She's been meowing at the door, but because of extra earlier work time plus congested traffic making the ride take longer I really haven't had time for her. Add to my time deficit having errands before work all week for needed supplies due to all the reasonably priced stores being closed on the only Day Off last week, n I'll tell you I'm so sick of rushing!

Photo by SnaggleTooth July 11 2012
After 6 days n a row of longer work shifts, I feel like a freight train ran me over. Everything is sore n bruised. Well, a couple of large, metal racks did run into me. Getting hit with moving people is much softer I've noticed. That's been happening all week to everyone as we get so overtired n less alert.

The management didn't hire alot of summer help this year. Somebody always calls in, then the rest of us get exhausted getting overworked, because the orders have to get out no matter what.

I've been glancing out the window at he R's relaxing next door the past two weeks as I've puttered about, feeling a bit jealous. I want to sit out n just read a book too, but there's alot to do in the daylight hours, n it's the opposite of my vacation.

Photo by SnaggleTooth July 11 2012
After running down to the M-cove to get some awesome, dramatic sky sunset pics, I spent some time at BBM's down the hill. I'm impresed with her i-phone, because she took movies of the 20 + minutes of fireworks for me! The pic was so clear for such a small one, n you could see the glowing necklaces, n hear the Little Ones talking, playing, n crying. It really made my day. It was a good fireworks display.

Photo by SnaggleTooth July 11 2012

Finally I got done uploading some of these pics. (4am) They're so pretty, I'm not altering them today- plus I'm out of time n need more zzz's. See if I find a few toe-dipping minutes after getting up this time. It's been nice n perfect weather, not too hot or muggy, Now if I can wake up to enjoy it...

Rypos J: Just Because

I've collected fewer Rypos since October 2011 ! I've made alot of other typos. but most weren't too funny or even a lot of repeats! Wow, are my fingers clumsy!

It even took me ages just to get a few images together to post with them.

For this version J,  I've made some comments, definitions, term-paper research materials, or was left laughing speechless! But for most, I decided to just continue my erroneous mission n add more crazy talk, just because they are so funny or strange!

If a googled pic was used in making images, urls are in the caption.

So Many Dinghies

While it seems so many folks are off work here for the celebratory BBQ n fireworks parties all week, I'm going crazy trying to keep up with all the extra orders at work. It's definately Crazy Time here!

I only have one Day Off this week, the 4th! But I'm betting I'll sleep thru the planned festival in the center of town early in the day  because I'll be so wiped out.

Saturday there will be fireworks right down the street from home, but I'll miss it again, working across town.

I've been rounding up another Rypo post for weeks now, but have had too limited free time to get it to post stage. Notably, no time to play with the planned image ideas. I'll try to get that up in the very near future, but my ambitions may out-weigh my energy this holiday USA week.

Meantime, applying my altered pic formula to this photo takes so little time, n I like the results. I should probably be eating or sleeping instead of posting now- Working early, working late, I've had no other fun at all. I always like the crowded dinghy area of the short-pier in Summer. This is from the same Day as the boat pic below.

I hope the intense heat isin't frying my blog buddies down South too badly today. The news paints a horrible Power-Out senario. I hope you all find a way to get thru it ok. We're only in the 80F range here this week.

Happy July everyone!
