Boomer Time

Image by SnaggleTooth June 2017Here comes FireWorks Week already. There seems to be plenty of loud, illegal, Boomers in the neighborhood.

I'm depressed I can't go to the fireworks in my old village this year, n have to work. When it was really easy to walk there a few blocks away I didn't want to go after awhile without some one to go with. Now I have folks to go with, but there would be such bad traffic getting to work would be impossible.

I'm very jealous of all the folks who always get this holiday week off for vacation. I miss having time to getting away, relax, n go swimming. Time is my biggest complaint these days. Someday I hope to get holidays off again.

Until then I'm kinda stuck chasing dollars. I don't want time off now, due to the fact it's the busiest time of the year at work, n the best chance for more over-time pay this year.
The money is always gone in a flash anyhow... So many bills.

But I have an abundance of free strawberries to sort n eat. Love strawberry shortcake for dinner. That is my fave part of living here, aside from the animals. This was last week's pickings. Still processing this weeks. Made preserves n froze some. Plenty more coming along too.

The squash seems to be growing better n have to pick a ton of radishes I need to figure out what to do with. At least the garden time hasn't all been wasted labor. The strawberries sorting is taking all my time lately, but at least I get to eat them.

That was the point after all, free food I like. Still waiting on Peas, beans, n tomatoes to produce.

These altered pics were produced without changing color or texture for today's post.

Enjoy those BBQ's n family time at the fireworks. Have a good, loud week-end!

Many Puppies

I realized after having written down ""
"Many Puppies" for a post title,

That it's almost the same words as
"Mary Poppins!"

Ironically - I was watching the movie
"Saving Mr Banks," with Emma Thompson n Tom Hanks,
about Walt Disney getting to know the author of the Mary Poppins book he adapts into a film musical.

Well all the puppies here aren't very musical, but are often loud n barking. Especially when the woman who is caring for them goes out.

She has undertaken the task of being a foster doggie-parent through PAWS of New England. After swearing off taking any more crying all night long puppies after the first two loud ones found a home, currently there are only twelve dogs here...

Two of them are adults, 5 were born here 3 weeks ago. Tomorrow a louder collie-mix goes to a home, then except for the whiny-howling Bichon Frise it should be alot quieter. Please , I need sleep!

I seem to take missed sleep alot better than other folks here tho, who get horribly grumpy!

... But I will take any 5 bark-less minutes to sleep they give me...

Note: Right now, these are the quietest ones!

Sum Mer

I've really been running out of play with pics time. Plus my pic program keeps crashing on me. Considering how much sleep I've been losing since living here, it's amazing to do anything for fun. I've taken alot of pics I won't use here, but will admit alot is going on around me that's due to the home owner here. And lots of animals. The cats are spending most time outdoors due to an influx of rescued dogs. I'll expand on that another time. It's been tough to sleep thru barking noise lately. I have been taking less pics in general Than before.

Work was nuts trying to do all last week, due to a machine breakdown the cleaning crew caused by shorting out electronics. My clothes looked like I spilled a can of sugar paint on them after my shift. What a huge mess I have been dealing with. I need new work shoes. I've been scrubbing them with a brush. It also got my back sore more as I had extra inches to lean over for hours on end. I pray that machine gets fixed before I get back there.

More seedlings came up out in the garden n the ants seem to be chewing them already despite powder insecticide. I did put out ant n slug baits last week. Looks like a bumper crop of strawberries will be harvested, if then sun stays out long enough to let them ripen. The patch is about 8 by 10 feet. I'm counting on my kitty friends here to keep the bunnies n rodents out of the garden area for me. I'm still convinced that containers in Chicken wire are the safest bet on what will produce more. After planting beans in the ground three times already, there are still only a handful of surviving plants...

Next I have to figure out good spots to put the little tomatoes seedlings from my window. I have to avoid places they have been before to avoid blight. I'll begin transplanting some today when I get back. Loving these long daylight hours, altho running out of time anyhow!

No texture or color change on my fave one here...

Watched the new "Logan" X-men film, 007 "Live or Let Die" again after years,  finished the "WitchBlade" series, n am in the middle of HBO's "Extras" series - English based, (Ricky Gervais).

Today's pic has a fuzzy head (from movement) of my garden help. I do have a Catnip plant in one container. I really like this photo for several reasons tho, like you can see the neat color of her  eye irises, plus you can tell how tiny those bell-like blooms from last week's pic were.

We are feeling summer heat here finally, n I'm not complaining!

Have a good
Week-End!

Patience

Wow, what a long week I put in! I got super sore n impatient the last few days, n wondered how I'd get thru to Day Off again. I did have a few silly days of joking around while I was slap-happy, n over-tired.

Then Day Off arrived with so much built up to do that I barely got to doing pics to post for the next day by 3 am. It had been raining with pop -up showers the whole week, but cleared for my free time finally, yay.

I had a super-clutzy, losing things I just had, n knocking stuff over evening doing things at home after errands. Prior to that while doing errands I was challenged by the bottom coming off-flapping of my favorite, old, cross-trainer shoes. I did a temp-clamp with Dollar Tree rubber bands, then when home I glued them together n re-clamped off my foot.

I went crazy looking for a missing old shoe to garden with, but gave up n used good ones so didn't dig much.

I'm discouraged with ground planting. I've done the same spots for beans n squash now 3 times with seeds. What had sprouted got eaten almost immediately by insects. I've been using "Seven" Garden powder in between raining.

Yesterday I put out some ant traps with cups over them to keep out rain n the cats. I put some seedlings in containers n surrounded them with chicken wire. Maybe those will do better.

I'm paranoid of putting the tomatoes out there now. The only ground plants doing ok now are the radishes that I won't eat, just planted to help carrots sprout, n a few peas along the garden fence. Everything else seeded is still MIA.

But on the bright side, The potted, pale, purple Lilies of the Valley from the old house finally came up n gave me one sprig of cute, 1/4 inch bells for the first time! I had expected them much earlier on the spring, n had thought them gone.

Tough gardening n being patient when over-tired n working too many hours.

The altered pics today are from a photo of them this year. Maybe other plants will show up off schedule n give me some free food n blooms...
