Pier Sights

Whew. I'm relieved that long work week-end is over! All the traffic n boats are are back again, right on schedule. Also the new Cape Flyer train service between Boston n Hyannis is bringing in some extra day trippers. They had a vets ride free wearing uniforms deal for the holiday.

Today was back to rainy, windy,  n cool for Day Off again. Much like the conditions when I last walked around the harbor pier n took these pics last week, but there was sunshine getting thru the cloudy haze then.

I hope I can get to more transplanting this week. The Impatiens I planted seeds for still only have first leaves, n aren't even ready yet. I wanted the peas n beans started in pots last week, but at least I got the lawn done before it started drizzling too much to continue. Today was a wash out-

The upcoming work-week is a six-day for me, n I'll be pretty burnt out by the next 2 days off, two weeks away. Another crazy, free promo item is being given away. Well, I won't complain about the extra pay hours, just wish the Elec Company wasn't going to get it all...

One of these days I'd like to have time to sit on that bench there awhile, instead of being in a constant hurry even on my free days, just trying to catch-up. Back to the bills n some updates...

The Stars of the holiday are of course those we remember who fell giving their lives for us to have freedom in the USA-

Tho here on the Cape it's the Summer Kick-off week-end of boating n party-land.

Of course, it's all alot of extra work for me...
Hope you folks have fun, n a BBQ meal. I'll miss the  parade, marching band, n taps ceremony again.

Salute to those brave souls. May their sacrifice never go unappreciated or forgotten-

Dark

Great, after a very long week-end of crazy orders n little sleep I finally had time to get online, but the phone line was dead! No dial-tone. I knew the bill was just paid this week. Maybe weather was messing with the line from the pole again, or re-construction on a nearby home had something to do with it. Used to happen often.

Another week without much blog reading time. I resigned myself to book reading n waiting to try to deal with it until the next day. I got all uptight thinking about scheduling with the phone-line repair guy n missing more sleep.

But Bingo! The light of day revealed the wire clip had come out of a Y-adapter, n there it was, Whew! I just taped it so it wouldn't keep coming out, n the house phone was working again. It merely wasted my time.

When I saw the problem, it felt like I should call it "A Dark Moment,"  like some folks I know refer to "Senior" or "Blonde" moments to describe not knowing what's going on, due to the brain giving up easily, which I tend to do after dark! N more so because it was after work-

Yesterday I finally got online n loaded ESR to answer comments at least.

Have any "moments" that made you feel idiotic lately?

Dandy Steps

Yep, the trees are pollinating n finally sprouting leaves. After yard work I had a day-long head-ache. Must be the Oaks... or Lilac buds.

Last week's Day Off had a spectacular, 70 degree, sunny day when I walked around the beach n pier after picking up mail, n took a few pics. This week we had a another wonderful weather day, n now we're back to cool 50F's, n overcast again. Motivation is lacking as  a result.

I've successfully left every chore half-way done this week... Half the laundry still to wash n hang-out, Cleaned part of the yard n pruned, but have big piles still to dispose of. Did half the shopping, need another store for another trip later, I wanted to get rid of large branches using a new hatchet out back, but alot bees were in my way. I got my cam ready, but missed sunset puttering about, stuck in thorn cuttings from overgrown bramble roses.

I sorted planters but didn't re-pot all the new plants. I churned the new side garden soil, but didn't plant the seeds yet. I installed half my programs in the new machine, which is driving me crazy every time I want to do something. I canvased the yard but I haven't opened the shed to start the mower, n some of the grass is getting tall.

I guess one good day per week is better than none. The race to catch up since the spring delay is on. Memorial Day Week-end n crowds of people aren't very far off.

Two more weeks n I'll be twice as tired, n hopefully have twice as much accomplished.
This pic is the steps to the main beach.

Coming up is Mother's Day

My memories of my mother surprise me so often with misty emotion at odd times. Even while cutting vegetables with her old pairing knife, or while eating spring strawberries.

What I miss about my Mother is
her strength of conviction. So few people these days hold themselves to the high standards she measured up to.

Image by SnaggleTooth May 2014Once she took a stand on an issue, she could not be swayed from what she believed was right.

She had a loud, strong, steady voice, n always voiced her opinion. I remember her speaking to friends on the phone n breaking into the most amusing,  spontaneous laughter. I can still hear it in my mind these 14 years since she's been gone. What I miss most is just being able to call her, n the feeling that all would be well because she always worked at ways of  solving problems instead of despairing over them.

Photo by SnaggleTooth May 2014Being raised by her made me strong too.

What do you miss most? How are you like her?

B7

Photo of B's painting by SnaggleTooth 2014

I've actually been consciously avoiding the internet all week. After news reported a new virus attacking IE browsers versions 9 to 11, I decided just not to get my home machine online n risk it.

Altho I use Chrome for blogging, my ISP software always launches IE automatically, even after changing default settings.
After getting some advice on avoiding the problem, here I am crossing my fingers.

Email n other accounts want me to keep changing passwords, so my system for remembering is all messed up too-
Classmates sent me a new message alert, n I can't even get into the account to read it. So much time is wasted just trying to get stuff figured out, n my time is too limited. Most of my online effort is spent paying bills n deleting scores of spam email.

At least the green has begun to spring forth here finally, even tho weather is in the 40F's n stormy rain these Days Off. I tried to put away the gloves n scarves, but they took an encore today. Daffodils, Forcynthias, Azealeas, n Cherry blossoms are out. Tree leaf buds are still waiting to unfurl. Willow trees are pollinating, n I'm allergic to those. The lawns are sprouting short, soft, new, green carpets.

Luckily no mowing is needed yet, n the rains aren't flooding here. Today I had time to get some inexpensive plants for the deck garden. Pansies, Lavender, Thyme, n a tomato bush, I have seeds for impatiens, n a wild-flower mix, n a butterfly mix to try for surprises. Also I expect all the Violas from last year to sneak back in again. My work is cut out for me with so many pots out there to do. so far only a few weeds n the chives are growing.

Meanwhile I'm taking another lazy week after getting the work laundry done, because it's that curl up with a book weather. Plus I'm still recovering from that last bug

Pic is a painting done this year by "B" who turns 7 Today. It hangs in a place of honor for all to enjoy. N here too...
