Fall Has Arrived

Still this week, it's been warm here.  Finally, it was cool so I closed the window halfway last night. The summer crowds n traffic are gone. I need to sort n move more things before the heater gets turned on, n find the winter laundry soon. In storage there are still things that will get ruined if they freeze.

The garden is winding down fast, n I'll probably spend tonight stewing tomatoes I can't use up fast enough. Probably make more banana muffins too. It took me hours to find all the things needed to do bake those last week. I have so many kitchen things containers That really need cupboards.

It's been tough for me to want to do anything major besides rest after getting back to work from those few vaca days. Orders are a bit lower, but not as low as past Autumns. It's still a relief to get home before 3am most days again.

Having other people around is really distracting, n I keep getting woken up with noise. At night I'm supposed to whisper n be very quiet so they don't wake up tho...  There is also way too much drama going on with "ex"-fights n grown children problems. Then there's further distractions -

My new home is full of surprises...

Currently it seems we are operating a home for wayward kittens...

A local Feral cat has twice decided to have kittens in this yard, n we have custody of another two, newer models. It's only been a couple days n they are still hissing n shy, unless you bring them toys (as I did) which has them playing more n hiding less.

I got some little, fuzzy mice for them, n had both clumsily chasing a string around for a bit. They still don't like to be petted tho- Hopefully they will rehab n be nice pets as the older two have become.

We are talking about trapping the Mom kitty to have her fixed before this happens again. One kitten was found deceased, n there's still another uncaught, small one out back here someplace.

Of course I don't have alot of time to spend daily with them, n really don't want a new cat yet, but wondering If I'll end up with one anyways again...

It's odd synchronicity that my old tortioseshell cat died 8 years ago to the day that they were discovered. The Mom kitty n one kitten are tortoiseshell.

Back to errands n chores, n playing with new kittens again...

Adjustments

Yep, making a few of those.

Last night, my whole finished post text file went bye-bye due to a machine freeze-up.

The Cape has been blessed with another bonus week of hot, dry, weather in time for my Day Off. The ocean water here is still 70F degrees. Yesterday, I finally rode my almost new, shiny bike to the beach at the end of my road.

I didn't have any pressing store needs, so I decided errands could wait until after the Library/blog trip this week. I'm still trying to fix the chain guide / gear switcher to work right since the tire tubes were replaced.
Haven't found the best, comfortable,  distance spot for the chain yet.

Image by SnaggleTooth Sept 2015 Can't believe I have to pump up the front tire before each ride anyhow, when the tube is brand new... They don't make new parts like they used to!

Back in The Day I used to have a thrown together from spare parts, Raleigh one-speed to ride around the city. I lent it to a friend to get home one night, n they left it under a snow-bank all winter until it rusted  beyond repair. It had no frills but was simple to fix, n easy to ride. I'll figure out the newer contraption sometime soon, hopefully.

The card reader used to transfer pics to the computer (so I can play with images) decided to go on the fritz, n I spent awhile testing connectors, jiggling parts, n contorting my fingers holding things so the machine would register it, while also mouse clicking, to at last upload What I snapped recently. After that I should've restarted but kept going- n all I did after got lost, probably due to all the dropped card reader connections that had accidentally occurred.

Guess I needed to keep tweaking what I was doing more. So you're getting the condensed version this time.

Top two altered pics from crops of the (unseen) altered, powerboat shot. Bottom three are the same pic of two sailors in a catamaran. All taken Weds.

Also, I discovered the elastic in my swim suit is going fast- time for a new one! There are none left at the stores here, tho you can easily find pumpkins n Christmas stuff in the stores now, way ahead of schedule.

What have you put off all summer you wish you hadn't?

Empty Wharf

Well I'd been planning a local dentist search sometime this week anyhow, but put a rush on it when the whole side of my face started throbbing as I awoke hours ahead of schedule on very hot heat wave Day Off-Vaca #2.

I rushed out to an office near the wharf in the Center of town, n got a couple of teeth pulled. Plenty more to follow in the next few months, but what a relief to get that sharp nerve pain out-

Had the cam out for a few pics while I waited there by the water a bit before heading to the pharmacy n back to the toasty house. Got an inexpensive Italian ice to use as an ice pack, n took it easy all day instead of the bike-ride n sorting stuff I was going to do before those teeth demanded priority...

Would've been a perfect Beach Day too... Now showers are expected the next few days n I don't know if I'll ever get there- but I'll keep it on the "Trying to do" list.

The rain is pouring with lightning out there, n I may yet get to the library to post this week. Seems blogland has slowed down to a crawl this summer, but at least I'm able to keep up on my reading!

Written last Thurs:

Today I spent hours contemplating "library or beach?" - I now realize I can't get both into a Day Off when open library hours are so limited this year, n daylight is so short after I wake up.
I ended up doing neither after my errand run. It wasn't really hot enough to motovate me to jump in the water, n I had no pics or post ready to upload yet anyhow. This week I'm going to work at posting better.

Most days at this house, folks are scarce running in n out to work n do errands at different times. Apparently I'm out during most of the other folks home hours, which I noticed on my Days Off are late afternoon n early evening. Then the people space is crowded here, up to six other people in this part of the house. When everyone is around, getting in the bathroom is tough. If I get home from work late (Usually all summer), I have to wait for two other folks to shower before they go to work about 4 n before 6am. If I wake up about noon, then I have to wait for another person's shower to get in there.

Turns out after spending so much time at the old house in the living-room, here I avoid it, because other folks are always watching tv I wouldn't, n nothing I want is in there.

My new friend, Hector

I spend alot of energy going back n forth from the kitchen to my room where all my non-perishable food n dishes are.

I'm not leaving my things out due to the few things I did place in common zones, quickly being contemplated by someone else, n re-located. When I only have minutes to get on the way to work, I can't afford to go on a dish-soap, sponge, or pot-holder  hunt for instance... n I'm allergic to their soap- n won't use their things ever. Someone always has to mess with my things- Why can't they leave it alone?

So all my stuff, towels, shampoo, laundry soap all is still stuffed into my room here, n carried out for each use.

I've been getting in some garden time, but due to the owner's hospital trips this summer, all her plants need watering, are over-run with weeds, n were neglected to be picked. Now she has no energy to spend on it, so I've been doing some of it- n getting a few beans, summer squash, cukes, n plum tomatoes before they are all wasted. I'd have done more earlier to better keep up had I known she wasn't going to do it. I really don't have time for it all now.

I've been reading Dan Brown's 736 page thriller, "Deception point" n made it to page 501 today. One of the freebees found on the Post Office "take or leave a book" shelf, n a really fun one so far, about a presidential campaign n an arctic  meteorite discovery, containing alot of science n covert ops happenings twisting the plot about. I was pretty impressed with Mr. Brown's "The Threat" awhile back, because I'm not big on politics reading at all, but he's good at making you think about aspects you hadn't known existed, like what goes thru the mind of the guy with "The Button" briefcase following the President everywhere he goes.

Tonight I was alone at the house for the first time on a Day Off for about an hour! I stopped reading, shut off the big tv always left running, used the bathroom, made food, n played with the now larger kittens. It was a luxury...

Also now I think having kitchen things easy to reach in the kitchen, n bathroom things in the bathroom is a luxury too- Folks in your own home: Consider yourselves lucky!

Sorry I was MIA last week-
Next week I'll have alot more time, hopefully.
