Leap

I woke up really late, n lucky for me the sun sets later now. My field trip for the day after mail pick-up was to the harbor pier before sunset, to see what digi-cam does there. Parking is free all winter. (I haven't paid, ever).
...
The air temp is running in the teen-F zone (-2C) n the windchill must've been 20 below zero F. The place was deserted, just as I like it. My fingers under leather gloves froze in just a couple of minutes. Still, I managed to click about 30 pics during my short, brisk stroll about the pier. You'll prob see a few more of these later.Photo by SnaggleTooth 2008
...
For now, tho, my only ambition is to sit in the chair with hot water bottles, n keep Mischief warm. I've been neglectful of contacting other folks lately, due mostly to not feeling well. I need to make a point of getting up early for calls tomorrow, before work.
...
Not doing much outside of errands n work has me stumped for upbeat subjects to discuss. In the past month I've missed two baby birthday parties, n feel a need to make up for it, but Feb hasn't let me.

Due to trying to pay for a regular months expenses with one less paycheck, I won't have any funds leftover from rent for several more weeks. I assume the Electric heat bill will have me in knots until next summer again, too, with all this cold hanging in around here.
...
It's Leap Day, but I'm not getting anything extra this round... The frogs are still hibernating, n it's too cold to jump off the pier!
(One of those piling shadows is me).

Slip Sliding

...
For the third time this winter season, I've had to leave for work in a snowstorm yesterday. In the past week, one arm's been run into with a steel form, n the other has bruised muscles n tendons from reactive swelling. I really wish I could wear my comfy, hooded coat which I'm now allergic too.
...
It didn't get really deep this time, n the shoveling wasn't as heavy. My arms are grateful not to have to deal with heavy plow droppings. All the slushy stuff was refrozen n crusty for the window-scraping on the ride home, so all I need to do has been put-off until I feel better about joy-riding around town again.
...
Maybe the groundhog was right about six more weeks this time. It'd be nice if spring showed up in just another two weeks!
...
These anti-histamines are kickin' the butt, better get in the shower n zzz's pretty quick here.
...
Happy Week-end All!

Tide Down

Hmmm, no one likes seaweed. What a surprize, (not)! There's the sun just beginning to set. You can see some of the lounging water birds in this shot. This pic, plus the stick, n the previous sunset shot were all taken while standing on the same rock. It was too slick up on the jette to risk much stepping-stone action.
...
I'm movement challenged this week. At work last Friday, I got slammed into with a large metal rack at full speed. It didn't stop me, tho...
...
Then as I was leaving work, I noticed some one must have gotten perfume on the arm of my coat while it was hanging up. I took it off, even tho it was 20 F out, but it was too late. I'm very allergic to that stuff, n can't let it touch me. My arm has swollen up like a balloon, n is so sore I'm struggling to move it. One wrong move n it screams at me. So now I get to take bendryl n wait around about 2 weeks for it to go away.
I changed to another, lighter jacket. I'm still trying to wash the stuff out of the coat, with no luck yet. Maybe the pet stain remover high-test will do it. Of course, I react to that too, but at least that will wash out.
...
The bright side is, I noticed before it did more damage- whew! Now I'm just trying to work like this, n it's excruciating- My muscles all look like mush on that arm now.
I'd like to harshly punish the person who spilled that crap on my sleeve. The investigation continues...

Shore Deposits

I wonder if our broke town will be able to foot the bill to clean-up this mess in the spring. I haven't seen this much stuff piled up here since after Hurricane Bob.
This seaweed n shell barrier mote is a seagull's feast, filled with all kinds of shell-fish meat, previously frozen, now thawed. The birds, all full, were just lounging lazily beyond the water's edge.
...
Besides the majority of Lady-Slippers in the shell-section, I observed large crab parts, many mediun to small scallops, baby osters, n easily found two five-inch long Whelk shells, which I haven't found at this beach before. This is alot of wash-up!
We have had several ocean-storms this winter, but I've never seen this many dead shell-fish with meat still attached! You could pave many driveways with those crushed lady-slipper shells.
...
This bay tends to have alot of seaweed. The majority are the thick green strands which attach to rocks n shellfish to use for their sinkers, n floating eel grass. There are acres of saltmarsh behind the parking area, also a plant n shell-fish friendly zone. There is alot of lost sea-life in this humounguos, withering pile.

It'll take a bulldozer days to get this sand visible...

Sea Me

Photo by SnaggleTooth Val Day 2008 ...
...
...
The Feast of Saint Valentine is not my favorite holiday. I remember very few of them in my adult life thus far as being good times for me. The majority of these occassions have been spent as a single social entity.
...
This hallmark day seems to have been invented to celebrate couples, n insult singles.
...
The only good part of this one, is the excuse to eat chocolate! Of course I'm waiting for tomorrow to buy some at discount. I didn't get to deliver any Val-Day greetings, so far no one has been answering. Of course, I didn't have time until after dark, after my normal rushed errand run.
...
I only needed a couple of things, n boy was the store loaded with lost men shoppers! I wish I could've waited another day for the store trip. The flower line at the market was the longest I've ever seen since they openned the new Department. I'm not big on flower presents at all. Aside from my deck n yard plantlings n an occassional Rose or Daisy (what a combo that makes- my favs!), I don't care for receiving blossoms.
...
How about finding a new patron Saint n holiday for grumpy, lonely people? Finding a way to celebrate independence n self-sufficiency would be a great boost for my mood. Hmmm... I'll have to work on this idea- when I ever have more time beyond the must-do list, that is-
...
So to help my sun-deprivation factor, I stopped at my fav place in the world before sunset to see what digi-cam does there. As I'd suspected, it was much more difficult to get clear shots in the windy conditions than reg film, n the sun is an undefined blob in stead of a disk, as I've observed in other folks pics.
...
I now have a ton of seaweed n rock shots for my digi collection. Although I froze my hands off even with gloves on, I didn't make it there in time to capture ice flows before they melted away, leaving shells n junk piled up high on the tide mark with no remaining ice-cone evidence. (If you want to see some great icy forms from this spot, see Feb '07 archives).
...
So I celebrated the sunshine, the ocean, the Creator, n my independence today. All you other folks- enjoy your togetherness n presents.

Brite Lite

...
Last Sunday I made it out on the deck to witness sunshine on my face finally. I thought it was cold then, until later on that night when the latest artic-freezer-teaser settled in. I've been too busy bundling up to even want to try pics after that!
...
The sky's been more clear, but sub-Zero temps in the constant wind have been unbearable. I won't go outside without the scarf n hood leaving only my eyes exposed... Well at least my apartment feels warm compared to outdoors now.
...
Here's a shot taken directly at the sun that wouldn't be useable if I'd tried it on the old-film cam. I do like the sky colors on my digi, too. The prisms visible in the rays was a total digital surprize for me. Then there's the bright spots of ice on the tree limbs highlighted. Bright n Cool...

Rays

Who couldn't use some sun rays?

It's been four days now since we've had any around here. My eyes are so used to grey, foggy, low-light conditions I'd be squinting in the bright light as shown here. This pic was taken a couple weeks ago of the front beach from the bluff late in the afternoon. The light makes it look warm, even when it was wind-chill-teens F...

Super Tues

I have to get up after a few hours of shut-eye, wait in line at the school to vote, pick a ballot 'cause I'm Independent, walk back home, n then go to work. I won't vote for Mitt, that's all I'll devulge about my choice.
...
This Snow is down to diminished snow-heaps again. We're having a nice warm 40 degree F rain. That's my street going up the hill, taken from the back-beach, less than a week ago.
...
The pile of candidates is dwindled down, too-

Alot of Hot Air

These inflatable team-mates have already made appearances in the local papers. Just as I was walking up to this place, just a few hundred feet from my house, Photo by SnaggleTooth Feb 3 2008I ran into a reporter with another cam in hand just as mine was, which amused me.
...
"I work for ___, What's your excuse?" she asked.
...
"I have a blog!" was my answer, altho I prob could of gotten away with a number of excuses. It is Super Bowl Day, after all. I live in New England, n I think these are cool.
...
So enjoy the game, everyone, Fan or Pat-Hater, enjoy your food n families. I'm setting the crappy-pic VCR, n I am off to work in a few minutes. I'll be back to watch the tape about 4 am. Wish I had the option for the party today, oh well!
...
Watch-out for those inflated egos!

Flying Dreams

...
...
...
If I had me a Mill-bux, I'd get me one of these, n my pilot's liscence. Then, I could go see MB in 15 minutes, or Fleen in 3 hours. I'd have to file a flight plan, but I wouldn't have to wait for runway clearance, just report what waterways I want to take-off n land on.
Of course, the fuel must cost a fortune for the high octane rating now. I didn't ask. First, I want to earn my Mill-bux! Then I'd go visiting. Even if I only had one Day-Off I'd have enough time to just drop in.
Of course, I'd never drive a machine I didn't understand the mechanics on, so I'd have to learn about that too. This is only one small dream on the list I've got.
