Hallo Weenie Spidey

Photo n Altered by SnaggleTooth 2009
The original pic of my missing Autumn friend, the huge brown bulby-spider isin't as pretty as her altered disguises...
.
Prepare thyself for a true, old tale... circa early '70's
.
Back in The Day, when folks weren't afraid to go around the neighborhood pounding on doors in disguise, there was this one house which succeeded in creeping us out every time.
.
Photo n Altered by SnaggleTooth 2009
None of us actually saw the owner outside during the year, probably on the graveyard shift... Adding to the fun, there was always a very tall, large, aggressively barking, german shepard ("Baron" as informed by another neighbor) in a ten foot cage on one side of the little house.
.
Every Halloween for years, me n my little sister steeled ourselves n yet again knocked on that door. After what seemed like a long time waiting, with the dog growling n barking, the doorknob would slowly start turning. The door would open just a crack. Then painstakingly, it would creak ever so slowly to finally open several inches. Then suddenly, a large, red, real, lobster claw shot out the openning snapping n pinching!
Photo n Altered by SnaggleTooth 2009 Shiek! Jump! After a few minutes of air-snapping the claw would finally offer a candy bowl to pick out something- a person's face was never seen... just a red-cloaked arm with the lobster claw on it. One year Little Sis just turned n ran! The claw saying,
"Come back little girl! Come back!"
.
Think after that we just skipped over the place... That person, who ever they were, had far too much fun scaring everyone!
.
Did your old neighborhood have a memorable house that scared you on Boo-night?

Mantis

Photo by SnaggleTooth Oct 30 2009

.
.
For a second there, I seemed to have a new door handle- I had a bit of trouble getting inside from the deck, due to a visitor, just in time for setting up a Halloweenie mood...
.
Photo by SnaggleTooth Oct 30 2009

.
He seemed a bit enamoured with the image in the window n didn't want to move off the door for a long time. Finally I got a stick, n moved the large specimen to the sunshine down in the yard where he's more likely to find a real friend.
.
Photo by SnaggleTooth Oct 30 2009
.
He seemed really happy with the new location. I'm pleased he did such a good posing session, n wish I 'd a cam better at clear close-ups. Thought I'd post the Praying Mantis' for the sqeamish in honor of the impending scary day...
.
(Most folks I know aren't afraid of them, plus, they eat the other bugs!)
.
Happy Candy Gluttony Day!

Off n Flying

In the few hours of daylight left after awakening on this DayOff, I managed to squeeze off over 80 Digi-clicks, n aquired so many beautiful images, that to make a choice between them all is taxing...
(pic taken from my deck today)

Off the deck most oak trees are still holding green while dressed in colored vines.

Photo by SnaggleTooth Oct 2009At work we have the usual deep red oak beginning. The leaves around town have been taking turns colorizing, n I had a few spots staked out to check again from driving earlier in the week. Some colors were less vibrant after my wait for unhurried time, n didn't end up being the better pics, after all.

(The Mill Pond,
not too shabby... )

After the market n gas station, it was perfect sunset with some clouds timing to get to Fav beach to witness the show with my windsurfer n gull friends. The wind was up, n probably 25mph. Wind-kite Dude flew so high in the air he must've felt like a bird, twice while I was there. I didn't get those pics, too busy watching n saying "Whoa!"

My regular, alkaline batteries died twice during today's excursion. The Beach had a hefty wind-chill that froze-up my hands, even tho the rest of the town was 62F degrees. Luckily, I brought a whole package of new batts along.
.
I'll have to save a few pics for later during the winter blues zone. I can't believe so many windy pics came out clear...(n only 25 more sunset pics to sort!) I'm certainly getting more color into my fun lately.
.
Now back to the relaxing portion of my glorious free time...

Path

Photo by SnaggleTooth Oct 2009 .
.
.
By now this pretty path leading up the hill is wet, muddy, n strewn with wind-blown vegetation cast-off from two days of windy, rainy NorEaster. Hopefully I get more days like in the pic next week when I have more free days to play with Digi-Cam.
.
This week seems really long! Only three more work days to go... I'm not getting around to read as many blogs until I get that time, either- Uphill all the way getting through too many days in a row again. My Zippity has DoDa-ed...
.
Project one is try to make it through the work aggravation left infront of me until I can unwind a bit. I always seem to be under way too much pressure there. To just sleep for a day with nowhere to be seems like the impossible dream. I'm having trouble waiting just these few days, after having waited over a year n a month already... I'd like to get on the two vacas per year plan.
Weariness takes it's toll... I must stay focused on this week's path. (but my mind is racing way ahead).

Ivy Aster

.
.
Poison Ivy can be beautiful when showing it's fall colors. Those little, light-purplely-blue blossoms with the yellow centers are abundant in the woods right across from here this month.
.
According to "A field Guide to the Wild Flowers of North America" by Joan Barker, (3 bux at Borders) they're the New York Aster, (Symphyotrichum novi-belgh). Two years ago, I grew some on my deck by accident, n found out they attract alot of bees.
.
I took these pics last week. Alas, no new pics from today. A NorEaster is raining on my Day Off Parade. It may even kick some frozen flakes in over night. I put the a plastic sheet over my young turnip plants on the deck again, in case it gets too frosty.
Tues am, when I went out after work to cover the late planting with my flash light, I bumped into my old friend, the possum! (I took his pic in the barrel once). Wonder what he was eating up here- besides all the sunflowers. Not the turnips, which are covered in hardware wire.
He looked so peturbed that I interrupted him trying to get into the deck barrel. Kept turning to look at me n wondering if he really needed to move. I ignored him n got to work in the cold. The loud, plastic-krinkle noise finally made him grumble n move outside the rails.
.
Photo by SnaggleTooth Oct 2009This week I only get this one day off, work another five nights, then finally get my free time the last week of October. Hopefully, I'll make it to next week- I've been very sore n fatigued, covered with bruises. My aching body just doesn't wanna wait- n the cold makes me ache more.
.
Well, At least I tagged the poison Ivy before it got me...

Curiosity

Photo n Altered image by SnaggleTooth
.
.
Twice altered, this image appeared in it's normal state in ESR awhile back.
.
My Sci-Fi mind wants to describe a tale about this new, mechanical life form, striding about the landscape on huge, high, legs, waging destruction along her other-worldly path...
.
Any guesses what the original pic could be?

Sky n Stream

Photo by SnaggleTooth Oct 10 2009
.
.
After errands n daylight chores, I saw this sky from the deck, n quickly hoofed it down the hill, northwest to get the m-cove in the shot. I stopped for more leaf pics along my way today, but none feel as serene as the cove sky colors.
.
In 14-hundred n 92 Columbus sailed the ocean blue; That's why (we're all here n) have this holiday- An excuse to have another long week-end before the cold takes over. Lotsa traffic out there lately. Also, work orders up for a few days, without enough staff. I'm dragging...
..

Photo by SnaggleTooth Oct 10 2009After today's dump-run I drove a bit further up the main road where I found this small stream surrounded by turning vegetation. Only a few trees are holding color here now. I'm saving more leafy color for another day.

I brought a few deck plants inside today because the temp is supposed to dip low overnight, n in mid-week also. I requested some vaca time soon, but don't know if they'll let me yet. I've so much to do, (paint the backroom, move stuff around, clean cubboards, art projects, ect) even that may be rushed.

I slow down when I see these images, tho...

Recoup

Photo by SnaggleTooth Oct 8 2009
.
.
The weather's been cool n windy, tho at least dry the past few days. I got out across the road from the house for a few pics, searching out the color. I'll post more later... Today I present Golden rod, n red Holly vine, with a Mayberry evergreen in the BG providing good contrast.
.
In case you're wondering how I'm doing: At times I'm still coughing my brains out n expelling gooy stuff, but not as constant. The fever is gone, n I do feel more clear-headed, tho not yet back to good. My energy level has been down with the temp drop. I'm getting pooped out after doing stuff for just a few hours- I'm used to having alot of physical stamina, but lately I just want to sit down- not stand up all day. My ears has been ringing off the hook, n I'm getting dizzy sometimes. I'm all bruised up from crashing my shins on low stuff at work yesterday.
.
Everyone's been taking turns calling in sick at work with this bug I've had, so it's always short-handed, rushed, n running behind schedule. Orders are way down from last year, but every section has been cut people, so all are trying to do more in less time, n have alot more to do individually.
.
On another tack, for awhile there was a really cool, huge spider on the front corner of my deck. I kept walking into the web, she kept rebuilding. Every night for three weeks I shined my little flashlight over to see her while getting the key in the door after work. The other day the web was huge, n cool looking. I avoided breaking it on the way to the main deck so I could take a daylight pic on Day Off.
Yesterday after work the nifty web n spider were suddenly missing, n I'm dissappointed. It looks like someone totally ripped off the web- I wish other folks would respect my area I pay rent for, n let the natural things I enjoy alone. Whoever did that really ticked me off... (My landlord's done that before).
Some folks enjoy killing things. I like to enjoy sharing life with them-
Hope you all are having a better day-

Hoops

.
.
.
I've never been good at the game of Basketball. I went thru periods of being able to get some good baskets off the telephone-pole hoop out front growing up, but never got on the school teams or seemed to perform well under pressure in gym class. (Never mind I'm too short).
.

.

.
These days I'm shooting different hoops...
Actually, these are a film exposure found hiding on my mystery roll which was started in 2007, continued at the playground in 2008, n finished in September 2009.

This was from a cold, March day at the playground, I believe. the graphic quality of the image would make a great card cover for my brother who loves playing hoops still every week with his old Buds

Which one would you pick to use?

His B-day is three days after mine plus five years, so I've got almost two months to decide. Think I'm leaning toward this one...

Photo by SnaggleTooth The Paintshop pro Effects-filter playing continues on, if about one-half day late-
The original came out pretty well, too.

Iccky Poo

.
.
A rare third Day Off in a row for me, n for the past two, I haven't been out n about for errands, or pic taking. I took my first sick day off yesterday (without pay) in the three plus years I've been at my current job.
.
I'm really working hard on resting up n trying to get better. Twelve hours I slept thru today, getting out of bed only an hour before sundown. I can feel the illness leaving my head (yay) n getting into my lungs more today (boo) n thanks to Mucinex plus tons of tea n fruit juice, am readily expelling the ickky-poo stuff, hopefully flushing it from residency.
I intend to attend work tomorrow,
unless the thermometer disagrees with my plan.
.
The positive side of so much free time without physical activities interrupting me is, I've gotten around to read alot more blogs this week than usual. I should've finished off a few more books, but my curiosity of what's going on out there has gotten the better of me, n the list of what to read is endless, n every subject to be imagined... I'll admit I'm fond of the Blogosphere for hitting the spot on a rainy, low-energy day, n so good for picking up my mood when I need the lift.
Thanks Bloggers!

Got Clicks

Photo by SnaggleTooth Oct 2009 .
.
Yay! I went to pick up the mail today n found my 1GB SD card order. Promptly I loaded up Digi-Cam, n put it in my pocket. My short errand run was unconsciously timed so I was on the way home near sundown, about 6:20pm. There was a little break in the clouds to view the sunset from the D-bridge. After the overcast day, it was a welcome sight. I would've stopped for it, even without Digi-cam. Great way to start the month...

(Backlit, without flash mode)
Most of the trees are green or bare here currently, except the trees right on that abuttment edge of the bridge were dressed in colored vines. The yellow is Bittersweet, the red is the Native wild Holly. At first they were back-lit, n didn't photo well- until the sun popped into them setting them aglow.
.
I'm extremely sinus challenged this week, with my hands full of tissues. I've been keeping a distance from all other folks today. I'll consider calling into work tomorrow, but don't have a fever. It's prob a cold developing into the sinus infection I get every fall, n I don't get sick pay. Can't wait until this clears up- I'll be adding extra garlic to my soup today.
.
At least I got a Clicks to play with again, n pretty colors to enter into the Fall Leaf Parade Competition of my fellow bloggers...

Photo n Puter image by SnaggleTooth 2009

Almost drawing-cartoon like here.

The original is part of a hanging Butterflies, long, dangling, transparent, plastic decoration with beads, hanging on a kitchen curtain rod. I took it as one of the use-it-up film, throw-away shots. The BG is my boat-ramp beach view.
I cropped n altered the graphic in Jasc Paintshop Pro 7.0, which I paid good bux for, n has served me well. Only one effect was used on each example shown. The possibilties are endless, too bad my free time isin't...
These pics may soon end up as card-covers. Now you see why I design Greeting Cards often also- when I can get the printer to co-operate, that is.
Thanks for the idea of posting altered graphic elements, LLCoolJoe n Talon- I'll try to periodically get more of this stuff up, tho I'm horrible at sticking to weekly things- n avoid schedules when I'm trying to have fun...
