Chili

.
Where are you when the ground quakes?
Large plates grate,
Crumbling civilization
.
Shifting tectonics far below-
No where safe left to go.
Out in the elements.
.
Tumbled homes,
Subduction, spread zones,
Volcanoe, atoll
.
Mountains build, rivers form.
A brand new landscape is born
Creatures will adapt.
.
How do you survive tsunami?
Save the ship.
Sea water flooding dry land-
.
Hope n pray for mercy.
Send for aid.
Brave your aftershocks-
.
Lucky escape harm,
Heed Tsunami alarm.
Begin all over again!

According to the Earthquake site listed near the bottom of the ESR "Surfs Up" list, (plus on TV news) On Feb 27, 2010 there was a magnitude 8.8 earthquake off the coast of Chile, South America. It's one of only 13 magnitude 7.0 or higher quakes recorded since 1973. The 9.5 quake in May, 1960 (1600 deaths) was 230 km south of the current event , n the 8.5 quake in November, 1922, which generated a 9-meter local tsunami was 870 km north of the new Chili quake.
.
The current Chili 8.8 event ruptured the faultline's subduction zone between those other two quakes. Tsunami warnings were sent out over the entire Pacific ocean area. No major wave damages have been reported tho.
.
Altho these dangerous natural happenings are frightening to contemplate experiencing first hand, I'm inexplicably fascinated n inspired by earthquakes. I can not ignore these news reports n reacting to them.

Storm Tide

Photo by SnaggleTooth HT 5:20PM Feb 25 2010
.
.
Looks like we're on the right side of the current storm. The news reported NYC n Philly are getting nailed with alot of snow again. Maine will get some more towards the week-end according to the forecast.
.
When I left for errands about 5:20 PM it was high tide. This pic was the tide level down at the boat ramp beach on B-cove. The storm surge is fairly high. The four-foot corner of the little seawall guarding the bluff is almost submerged, n there was less than ten-feet of beach sand left uncovered. I had to keep wiping rain off Digi-Cam, but it wasn't too bad then.
.
Down the hill the M-cove water was very nearly in the Boulevarde. It was getting too dark for more pics, n down-pouring again, so I didn't stop. Shopping had torrential parking lots. I felt bad for the cart collector, but coveted her rubber yellow coat...
.
When I returned back about an hour later, the sea water was still way up there, as tho it were still high tide... but at least it didn't flood into the roads. Further north-east facing coastline may not be so lucky. Now the winds n rain are adding up again.
.
Finally after several chores I'm sitting here with Mischief with Olympics on tv, n doing some online tasks. I noticed an unusual sound from across the small room, which I could hear n not see just after Mischief turned her head that way. Upon closer flashlight inspection, I had to hurry n move a bunch of stuff like my Accoustic-electric guitar n some paper art work, n covered the bookcase with plastic due to the attic vent leaking n going thru the ceiling, which just cracked there... (another paper artwork Previously posted)
.
Well, at least I have a bucket to use, n got things out of the waters way before they were ruined- whew! Good thing I wasn't at work all night, n had Mischief to help me notice soon after it began. That could've been a disaster going unchecked too long in all this precipitation.
May your Storm Tide go well!
I am so lucky...

The original pic is an ice-covered cranberry bog on the way to fav beach a few days ago. We've had such a lovely thaw the past week. Now here comes another mix of precipitation to drive in for several days.

Have a good one!

Blue water, dusky sky.
Purple snow dancing with pink sunlight.
Sunspot bright in my eye
Cloud dotted line leads day away.
.
Awakened by the wind
Time sings quietly.
Birds swim unalarmed,
Hike wet lowtide sand.
.
Crunchy shells, seaweed ice.
Barnicle clinging to rock for life.
Abandoned in dry air
Awaiting high waters return.
.
Free to see,
Much to feel.
Moment earned,
More to learn-

Day Eight-in-a-row is behind me, n now there's one more before the coveted Day Off arrives. Sore is an understatement, black n blue more apt.
.
Alot of slushy-snowing going on tonight which I had to drive home in, but the roads aren't too bad, considering that last snowy ride. Thankfully, there aren't alot of cars on the road to contend with while I'm trying being careful in the slippery conditions.
.
At Day Off time I'm prob gonna sleep thru the whole thing, nevermind run a gazillion put-off errands. There's just never enough free time for my 2-Do List lately. Been meaning to get some discounted dark chocolate Val-candy but haven't had time yet. Craving that rich chocolate...
.
The past three days have been wonderfully quiet because the downstairs neighbors are away somewhere (spring break?). It's such a relief to get several hours of sleep without all the interruptions. Whew! I wonder when I'll finally get some un-busy time to loaf around again...
.
Work Day Nine is on my docket. My record is sixteen at this same job. I'm not getting extra pay or hours for it this time. My Days Off were moved around from the beginning of one week to the end of the next. (Rip off!).
.
What's the most you've been required to pull in a row on the job?

Mo Sno

Photo by SnaggleTooth Feb 2010These pics were the view out my open kitchen window right after a cloudy sunrise n the NorEaster (before sleeping) yesterday.
.
That's the summer neighbor's little window in front of the Huckleberry tree branches, n vines all wearing snow.

. You can see the gleam of B-cove's water thru the snowy trees from here, (better with the eyes than my cam).

MapleBeard has alot of snow to eat.

Today it warmed enough to clear most of the road pavement, n driving was way easier.

.I should really stop blogging so much n sleep more... (Oh well)!

We got clobbered with a NorEaster on the Cape this afternoon n night. It's a slushy, slippery, 8-10 inches about 6 inches all packed down, so not too bad, but heavy. I had to work while the storm was brewing.
.
After almost an hour of shoveling, having been buried in a bank by the plow at work- I finally made it home safely, (Glory-Be I'm alive!)white knuckled, n eyes glued to the road all the way.
.
I shoveled to get into the driveway n did most of the walk, n porch by head-lights so It'll be easy to get back out tomorrow. Heck of a way to end a busy workday-night after only three-hours of sleep- on day #2 of a nine day work-week without a Day Off...
.
Food, eats, shower, zzz s, aches, pains, moans, n groans...

Candid

Pic by SnaggleTooth 2010
.
A couple of weeks ago I got to visit with all my Fav folks, n took these pics. I just finished getting the red-eyes out today.
MB was visiting right down the hill for the week-end, n a wild play date took place around a pizza n fun food feast. It Kinda resembled a B-day party without a guest of honor...

They're all special to me, after all- I've known them all since they were born.
All the young ones got along so well it was like a magic charm spell was in effect.
.
Pic by SnaggleTooth 2010Everyone got tatooes n candy. All the Moms hung out n relaxed for the first time in awhile.
I played alot too.

No two children have been repeated in this post! (really)!

Thin Ice

Photo by SnaggleTooth Feb 2010 .
.
.
Today was bright, sunny, n chilly, n I slept thru most of it. Having less sleep n money recently is really wearing me down. I got up n out in the last hour of daylight for errands.
.
First, I checked the B-cove for signs of ice. The tide left a thin sheet like glass high n dry ontop of the marsh grass until the water returns.
.
I wanted a pic of some of the ducks n geese sitting on the B-cove's ice, but they took off the moment they saw me coming down the path toward the water. Birds tend not to come out well on my cam, anyways. The ice hasn't built up much this week, or it'd be white out there.
.
Photo by SnaggleTooth Feb 2010 .After picking up the mail I took a walk around the village pier at sundown. The colors were subdued without clouds to reflect upon. I'm grateful to get some sunshine on my face, n enough time, n ambition to explore n click a few.
.
Air pressure was put in a low tire at the gas station, then a short trip to the market for supplies was accomplished. Finally, I tracked down the state tax forms at the library, open until 8 pm today, where I haven't been in awhile. I want to spend more time there this year.
.

My next priority reading will be tax instructions tho. Nevermind a stack of books at home still unread, mostly non-fiction. Next week my Days Off are changed to cover a co-workers vaca, so I'll have to work six days in a row without any break for rest, pics, n errands.
.
I won't be blogging as much in the next few weeks, involuntarily. There's simply too much to do in too little time. February is a short month, n my funds need a boost.
Photo by SnaggleTooth Feb 2010My 'Puter needs more hard-drive space ASAP, n Windows updates won't even fit for security. Nothing can be done about it until the bux, n time. I'll get around to read as I can, but less often (Not every day :( ). Several upcoming needs will require missed days of sleep I also can't afford.
.
Now Day Off time is over, n I'm off skating thru February on thin ice...
I'm waiting for the icebergs to build....

Groovy

.
.
Have you ever written anything stupid on a wall or object just to amuze yourself?
.
Recently at work, on one of the large metal racks which carry food to the stores which needs work, in black marker someone wrote, "ME NO ROLL."
.
So on the next tier underneath it I added,
"YOU NO ROCK."
.
I keep encountering the same rack during work, n every time I see the words, it brings me to a silly, ironic spot. It reminds me of my musical self. Also, you do have to rock the cart to get it to move...
