Shaken not Stirred

Today's USGS map at http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsww/Maps/region/N_America_eqs.php cropped .
.
If you're ever curious about scientic facts about recent earthquakes, as I always am, On the bottom of my side bar links is The USGS (United States Geological Survey) Earthquake site for a quick n timely updated regional list n a variety of maps.
.
Off the list by Magnitude or region, click on a date/time to get the specific report, then tab between "Details, Summary, Maps," ect. All the aftershocks are also recorded on the list.
.
The latest two high magnitude Quakes, offshore off Eureka CA, 6.5 on Jan 10, n Haiti 7.0 on Jan 12, were indeed part of distinct fault lines. Exact plate movements n locations are known.
.
The site doesn't get into the humanized details, but does help with understanding why it happens where.
. .................................. .
.
What has been troubling me besides the horrifying causualties taking place in Haiti the past few days, n being unable to do anything about it, is a train of thought expressed by some co-workers in response to the disaster.
.
Some Christian folks I know (Some from the Dominican Republic n the USA too) actually believe that Haiti was purposely destructed by God as a judgement against the dark religions practiced there (such as VooDoo). Even a TV reporter described the event as "a disaster of Biblical proportions."
.
This doesn't explain, however, why so many innocent travelers, children, hospitals, n even the Arch Bishop were impacted in collapses.
.
Looking at the maps, it is easy for me to follow the known fault lines of the tectonic plates n reason that it was indeed a natural occurrence caused by the Earth's inner movements of magma. I don't hold with the notion our Creator would ever do such a thing merely to teach a lesson. These lessons have already been taught thru recorded history.
.
To have made such a place as this, n have so many incredible experiences for so many lives here over time, shows a far more intelligent entity than we can even begin to grasp. A random slap-down for misbehavior? Tell me Al-Queda doesn't deserve it more...
.
Read the Maps, follow the lines...

I do not believe in that kind of "punishment." My heart goes out to the people of Haiti. I do think sending a small contribution adds up and that is what I am doing. I feel so helpless...

So strange that anyone would think the earth's geological events are a punishment...boggles my mind. Following that insane theory there wouldn't be a place on earth that didn't "deserve" some form of retribution.

you know me, I believe all things happen for a reason. the reason we may never know.
it is a sad thing that has happened and a great loss of life, we can pray that great things may come out of it
that and help however we can

"it was indeed a natural occurrence caused by the Earth's inner movements of magma," yes I agree on that, Snaggle.

I guess it all goes back to the sin in The garden Of Eden. Things were perfect then. And of course, will be again. Mysteries lie within, but we must trust in God's divine plan of goodness to be revealed.

Lynn, to think that any people "deserve" such a trauma, is to judge them, when it isin't our place to do so- I've actually worked with a few Haitians in the past few years. All the contributions will make a big difference to the survivors.

Talon, Fire n Brimstone are still alive in the minds of those I work with. I also think every one has been bad at some point- n no place would be untouched. Good point!

Paige, True we'll never understand the why of such things, n aren't meant too. Recorded incidences of God's wrath are known to come with a prior warning, n the good are spared. Those elements are missing in this instance.
Pray survivors, especially the children, recover n go on to have decent lives.

Paige, Thanks- It's been there for a few years now.

JanF, The trick is probably getting large cities off the major fault lines, but that would be too intelligent...
Well, I remember the story of Sodom n Gomorrah. At least two messenger angels were sent ahead to tell the innocent to leave- but Lot's wife had to turn around n look, n became a pillar of salt.
I don't know what that has to do with this! There was no warning.

it is just unfortunate, one can never predict what's happening in our lives...

thank you for the beautiful thinking..

JingleYQ, thanks. It's very sad some folks think they got what they deserved. We do know where the fault lines on the edge of the North American Plate are tho- (red lines in the pic) n could at least warn folks they shouldn't live there.
