Octo
Getting some substantial rain here in drought country finally. A good excuse not to mow the lawn, n not to go walking without good reason. Plenty to do inside, but motivation to begin is tougher in the dim conditions.
At this rate I may never plug in my 200 watt Amp for the Elec Violin, or, Mandolin, or Guitar. Certainly I'll hesitate before turning things on. I'm about to take everything out of the surge protector bars except the tv, computer, n phone. So the cd player, chargers, ect will become a hassle, just like turning on the water heater for showers n waiting has become...
Bills n food just go up, up, n away- making it difficult to survive as it is. I really have nothing more to cut back on with the electric besides the refrigerator, but not spending on a new one yet. I'm already shivering just thinking about the minimal heat I had in here last year...
Certainly it won't leaf me with much...

Sorry to hear that. We pay the highest rates in the US. Avg family pays $200 per month I'm not kidding. . . .
I hope you'll continue to play music
my fellow musician. Got anything on Sound Cloud?! I'm icloudia there
ALOHA from Honolulu

Cloudia, wow, that's so high! Ours is getting there. On the Cape we have the highest rates around already. My problem will definitely be the heat, n now they'll shut folks off in January with a new rule. Not into the Cloud yet. Aloha!
That really sucks. Electricity bills are going up and up here too. I particularly worry for the elderly that just can't afford to heat their houses in the winter. No one should be cold.
I took a similar photo of leaves recently. :)
I hate the way the cable companies, the energy companies and the insurance companies are taking more money from places that have less and less. It will backfire soon, I am afraid. I have several repairs to be made on this house that I have been putting off, but since they keep piling up I better do it before winter bills take away the buffer.
Funny, but my sons and I were just talking about how crazy the cost of living has become. Just the price of a loaf of bread today compared to 2 years ago is insane! Just once, it would amazing to have a rate go down. Won't happen, but we have to dream, right? We just got our equal billing for our heating gas...yeah, it's gone up about 12 percent compared to last year.
Hope you had a great summer, Snaggle!
LLcoolJ, The electric company always finds a way to make us pay more, n always get paid. They even will attach liens upon the sale of property to get their money. There's really no choice for us but to pay. What a racket!
Tabor, Plus it's so difficult to get good, local work. Everything around is low pay, n no one I know can afford such a high rate hike.
I hope you get to the repairs before all the funds disappear. I have to plastic all over here. Repairs, never mind.
Talon, I don't know how the kids pay for all they have. They have all the games, cable, hi-speed, ac, new cars- I keep all mine minimal with no frills here, but it still isin't enough- There's no keeping up with these powerful cronies! The government keeps making us pay more with out jobs to help us do it. Hope your family is all doing well in spite of it all.
I'm glad summer tourist season is over, thanks. Welcome back!
40% seems like an excessive leap. I would find someone to complain to - we have the public service commission here. I just looked it up - here is a link to the one in Massachusetts:
http://www.mass.gov/eea/grants-and-tech-assistance/guidance-technical-assistance/agencies-and-divisions/dpu/
It says on the website: " The mission of the Department is to ensure that utility consumers are provided with the most reliable service at the lowest possible cost; to protect the public safety from transportation and gas pipeline related accidents; to oversee the energy facilities siting process; and to ensure that residential ratepayers' rights are protected."
It appears those rate increases had already hit Oklahoma. Love the leaves photograph as well as the altered ones.
yes we have game consoles, but we RARELY buy games for it. Most games we have were gifts, and our kids don't really have much in the way of toys otherwise. We use the consoles for for tv watching. We don't have cable above the $12 basic. but we do have netflix, and mooch off BBM's account via the xbox app. We ditched satellite to save money. It is definately more expensive to live these days. I don't get cost of living raises b/c I'm grant funded, but thankfully the hubs has scheduled pay increases each year with his contract.
My car is the newest at 4 years old and it's a base model Accent, with good gas mileage. Nothing fancy.
One thing that I hate about the cost of living is that even though we earn a decent amount of money, I still feel pretty poor. We really don't have many extras in our life compared to others in my age. heck I'm just jealous their house is cleaner than mine.
Anyway. I think you should really get (as in have the lanlord pay) to get an electrician in there to check the electricity usage in your place. with how little you use electricity in general, your costs shouldn't be so high! I really think wiring is messed up somewhere, and there is something sucking up juice 24/7. also I think you should go downstairs and use the apartment for for heat and showering, and heck cooking. just move down there. because with all that is wrong in your place I bet you'd have legal rights for not paying rent
Lynn, It is excessive. Thankyou for the link.
Gran Annie, It does seem like highway robbery- I pray we can somehow pay for our bills. Glad you like the images, thanks
Erica, It seems even "middle income" folks have lost a great deal of buying power, n quality of living with all the living expense increases. We're at the economy point where everyday people are struggling to get the basics paid. So sad that going without becomes normal.
My refrigerator is definitely using too much juice. Downstairs heat is locked on 48F btw- I'd just be happy to get more money to pay it with!
FORTY percent?!!?? That is robbery. I would def. look into fighting that, as Lynn says.
And maybe you can just shut the fridge off for the winter, sounds like it could be cold enough in your apartment. Bad joke. But seriously -- how are folks supposed to survive, let alone "get ahead" in life these days? Sheesh.
Good idea on keeping just the minimum plugged in, Snagg, hopefully that will help some.
Stay warm!

Jannie, I don't know how that got approved so fast without opposition. Elec heat is bad enough to pay without that added! The animals would go to town on the food if I stuck it in the snow- Thought about that already... unfortunately, I can't do much in here in the dark really. Thanks
