Not Tropical
We're in the deepest of the Frozen Zone so far this season. Down to single digits at dawn on Day Off.
I went out n got more eggs so I could keep baking to keep the house warm. I wanted to get a gallon of milk too, but there were only a few half gallons left on the shelf. I wanted to make some custard pie.
News reported that all dairy stuff is about to steeply rise in price due to the Congress' failure to act on an agriculture bill about farm subsidies. It will affect alot of food prices due to the uses of corn too.
Since Xmas many inexpensive items I usually get weekly have been cleared off of shelves here. Prices on almost everything at the store is already up from last week, I noticed. The payroll Social Security tax withholding increase is supposed to begin soon-
So my shopping budget is already messed up, even with the temporary Fiscal Cliff bill they passed on New Years.
I'd rather begin the year with a surplus...
The snow at the boat ramp came out really blue late this afternoon with the sun behind some clouds, but I like the pic anyways, n especially the warmer altered versions it produced. Back to staying warm...

That is a lovely photo! Stay warm, my friend. Baking is a great idea.
Our government will not be happy until we have spent all our money and are on the Welfare lists for government subsidies that they cannot offer because there is no money left anywhere and we're all dead or dying anyway for lack of medical care. Just sayin'....
Granny and I are most often on the end of the socialism scale. It isn't until you have walked in others shoes that you think the government should help. The conservative Congressman who had a stroke now want Medicare to increase subsides for those with strokes and Gov. Christie is all about helping those who are now homeless through no fault of there own. Congress did add to the bill for dairy assistance, so that should help the milk prices...along with a subsidy for NASCAR and some other silly thing.
Lynn, Thanks. To me baking is the best way to stay warm! Plus I get to eat it all week after work-
Gran Annie, Our government is driving us into being indentured to the Chinese for generations- my opinion- They won't ever be happy- we need to taker politicians HC off the tax funding!
Tabor, Good point- until you need help or can't make it, you don't get why folks need gov help sometimes. Thanks for the update- I didn't see that news yet. Well at least they're doing some work for a change!
Aren't Nor'easters fun?
Yup, the payroll tax they took care of on January 1, so my paycheck next week is already gonna be about $36 less than my last one was.
We got a good cold snap going here, with overnight/early daytime temps in the lo teens.
We had a couple freezing days with super heavy frost but we're back up to 40 degrees and rain again. Your snowy pictures are so pretty. I love how snow covers the dreary winter earth with what looks like fluffy white frosting. Your pictures are great and especially the blue snow. I really love that one. About the fiscal cliff, it seems there is always something to be concerned about. Isn't it sad that we pay so much to have these things taken care of but we only end up with more to be concerned about? SOmething is very wrong and needs to be corrected. I hope we all have a happy new year. Do take care and keep on taking those wonderful pictures. Thank you
I LOVE that last picture!! At this writing I have not actually biggered it, but I will and I'm sure it'll offer all manner of fanciful fare in the details.
chilly-chilly. eggs are good. what did you bake?
so you were being your usual good citizen and not hogging the milk from families with kids, and such?
higher taxes suck. I do believe the FICA we've paying into the govt has been at the same rate since at least '96, as per when I began doing up the payroll checks and reports of 940 and 941 to the I.R.S. I guess they figured that had lasted long enough.
Gas has been more-or-less going down here, so that's good. is your gas lower than last year too? we can now get if for $3.08 a gallon, was maybe $3.75 this time last year. i know with all your driving that would sure make it easier on you.
Anyway .... gonna post this and bigger that lovely snow picture.
xoxoxo
Yes, lovely shot. I am struck by how much it reminds me of Mahone Bay. I like that little double-decked building across the way. Is it a pub on top with little shops below?
xoxo
Neo, Nor'asters are great when you don't have to go anywhere in them... or shovel!
G, don't feel bad, we all lost a day for Xmas eve off with no pay, no holiday ot pay working on Xday, plus hours already cut daily due to shorter orders! Add that withholding off, n I'm missing over 100 already!
It is FREEZING! Lo teens is a heat wave here!
Mountain Mama, We've been frozen ice since the storm here. Got some huge limbs to clean up in the yard- Iced in!
JanF, What a "biggered "pic! Way better than a boogered one! A snack cake consisting on half a yellow cake mix, with an apple sliced up n wedges standing up put in the batter. n A coconut custard pie after I got my hands on more milk. I do a half recipe for that one too-
$3.08!! We're about 3.40 here still. I believe that's apartments rented for Summer vaca time over on Water St. All shops are on the Main Drag going over the bridge the other direction past the marina.
ahhh, I see. residences over there. That apple wedges cake sounds awesome!! great idea.
And now I'm going to bed
xo
JanF, btw- for the cake mix I only use 1 egg, half the other additions of water n oil, n use an 8x8 pan, n only 1 apple. My favorite invention.
Sweet Dreams Jannie!
13!!!
Neo, finally a teen-aged comment!
nuh ah! ;p
That last photo is amazing! No snow here in the UK just a lot of rain that is causing more flooding.
Neo, 13 is the first year of teen-age-hood! Ya ha!
LLcoolJ, My eye saw alot of light glowing on the frozen stuff, but the cam didn't, n changed tones to darker than I'd thought they were. Our eyes do an amazing job adjusting for us,I think! So many blues in there, it was a nice surprise. Thanks
Sorry to here about soggy floods there-
So what's 18 then? ;P
Neo, Adulthood
No silly, it's the number after 17!
Neo, voce es vingte! Ou diaz y oite- en portugues de trebalha. ha ha
I haven't been 20 in a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooong time my friend. :)
Neo, Learning Portuguese numbers was difficult, because both Spanish n French are pronounced a different way n I knew those, n assumed it was similar after reading the words. woops, But you were 20 n the comment count!
Keep up, now I'm 24!
I age quickly!
Neo, aging isin't all it's cracked up to be!
Heard that. Woke up this morning and looked in the mirror and noticed I had a gray hair on one of my eyebrows; plucked that bad boy quick!
Neo, I heard every time you pluck one out, fifty new ones droe in it's place... it does seem like it! That's okay, you'll look ok with no eyebrows! or there's always "Just for Men"!
pht! GROW!
"droe," huh? LOL!
Future nomination for the next installment of ESR rypos 2K13 Edition. :)
Grow Grow Grow your rypo,
