911 2006

Puter pic by Snaggletooth, 2001, arial twin-tower photo-map by Mapquest with a wavy U.S. flag overlay

Five short years,
n it all seems like just yesterday. There's no way to forget that knotted-pit in your gut the first time you saw (the footage) the tallest sky-towers collapse n realized the gravity of the situation, the thousands of lives lost.
...
I bought a VHS film "In Memorium, awhile back, n still have trouble watching it.
I missed three nights of sleep after that day, staying up to watch the media blitz, riveted to the set, letting it all sink in.
The way I thought about life was changed by that moment.

We can be very fragile in our existance. Evil humans can easily squish us in our complacent daily travels. Not one moment of our lives should be taken for granted.
Every single person deserves respect. Every, single life matters.
...

Bless all the souls who passed on 9-11-01

So very well said, and so very hard to believe that 5 years have passed.

I did watch the second plane go into the south tower, and knew in an instant that this wasn't a mistake, we were under attack. Everything we knew up to that point would be forever changed as we tried to rummage through the grief to find out the whys of how it all occurred.

What frightened me the most was that I knew my brother was a regular traveler for his insurance company, and they had sent him to San Francisco in the past. Since his company was in Boston, I worried that he might be on one of the flights. I immediately called him, relieved he was still at his desk, and we had a somber conversation. It turns out, one of the private adjusters who worked under him was on one of the planes. For someone who loved to fly, he vowed that he would never get on a plane again.

That was short but one of the best posts I have seen today on the anniversary.

Thank you.

Ellen, I'm glad you didn't lose any loved ones that way.
I was at work, less than 3 miles from Otis where the F-16's took off- it was so hard to get thru that day! It's amazing I didn't know anyone from Beantown on the flights 175 n 11 from Logan, as People I grew up with fly there all the time. One of Bruce's friends hit a tower.
So many people forever affected, mostly because of the media coverage.
What's important priorities sure shifted quickly for many folkz!
That's why I drove to Florida in '91 instead of flying...

OilF, your welcome, Thankyou. I'm glad you think so. It's so tough not to become cliche' n passe' when writing in memorium. There are so few words of comfort to fit this situation...

yes indeed,
and some lost other less tangible things: a friends brother had that as their wedding anniversary ( marred) and then the mom died on 9-11-2002
some very sad coincidences
my 2996 tribute is up

David, I've been to your two tributes, n hopped a few of your commentors links to read more.
I heartily recommend readers check them out (organized tributes to 911-01 victims project).
It's probably impossible to read them all in one day-so many souls to remember!

-did I mention my last 13 hour shift after 8-days-in-a-row made me very exhausted?
