Lotsa Water
Flooding in the state of Massachusetts is reaching a 70 year record (1938) for some areas. My family is safe on Cape Cod n in Western MA. The North n East sections of the state, Southern New Hamphire n Southern Maine are all rushing downstream...

"...The Merrimack, Spicket and Shawsheen rivers are all above flood stage, according to the National Weather Service. Romney said the rivers are expected to crest at around 3 a.m. Tuesday
...Romney said the regional sewage treatment plant in Lawrence has been compromised by the flooding. The plant treats sewage from Andover, North Andover, Salem and Lawrence. The plant failure could dump as much as 115 million gallons of sewage into the river per day.
...
In Peabody, hundreds of residents were evacuated to temporary shelters to escape the rising floodwaters. Much of Peabody's downtown is under water. ...
...
The flooding has also created gridlock on the state's highways and major roads. Major sections of Route 1 North and South in Saugus and Peabody have been shut down, paralyzing traffic in many parts of the region. It is unclear when the road will reopen.
"We have closed (Route 1) at the jug handle in Peabody. We have to divert (traffic) to the side roads through Lynn and Lynnfield," said Massachusetts State Trooper James Gilhooley.
Rising flood waters led to the rescue of about 60 people along Hawkes Street in Saugus by firefighters.
"I am just scared. I don’t know. It is a scary thing to leave your house," said one resident.
Fire officials said Walden Pond got so much water the overflow system could not keep up, leading to flooding. ..."

cross your fingers for me so i dont get stuck in traffic on 495.. im heading to boxford today
Wow, that's a lot of water. We came close here this past winter - escaped by the very tops of the levys. No repairs in sight... expect it will be happening here soon.
Hope all turns out all right for you all. I love Boston!

I've been watching this on the news, and am glad that my relatives (and yours) are out of harms way. They are really getting socked in up there, and the additional problems with the dams are not making it any easier.
I did hear that they had some sun coming up their way soon though. Just hope it's long enough to help dry things out, and get those dams repaired.
Nothing like a good disaster to find out where the weaknesses are, huh? Makes me think that the "big dig" millions could have been better spent.
MB, prayed for ya already this week, I trust it worked... Hope you made it ok, that wasn't the worst spot to go at least!
Mike, Are you below sea level there? This type of flooding happened last October, I drove past some deep areas of New Hamphire when dams were overwhelmed on the Conneticut River. So this is major River flooding due to rain twice in 7 months for our New England region.
Saugus is a swimming pool today!
Thanks! I'm fine (n lucky!), think my bro's Summer/Marshfield house is very damaged tho- Beantown will recover.
Ellen, One idiot got killed today going around a barrier n barreling thu the water then was submerged! The dams are the entire problem, most are out dated, none can handle the water amount we got without overflowing, (n think last October I mentioned) there are hundreds everywhere.
I saw the sun for about 10 seconds for the first time in 8 days on my way to work today! Stars were visable thu the fog on my ride home. It's been very foggy all week too.
Don't get me started on the Big Dig... just as long as the new huge tunnels don't wash out...
I've been thinking about you over the last few days. Glad to know you're safe - and DRY!! ;o)
wow that was extremely eye opening man. u live in a place like india n u assume evrythings hunky-dory abroad. ive seen a lot of beaureaucratic inefficiency here but nothing like that. is big brother losing it?
the flooding on the north shore is wild.. i saw it. the exit i get off of on 495 is on teh line of lawrence and north andover. route 114 in middleton completly flooded. the pictures and videos you see don't do it justice. i almost got myself lost trying to get to boxford b/c the main road to boxford from the highway was closed b/c the road was flooded in several places, and all the other roads i turned down were those friggin' cul-de-sacs.. god i hate those. why don't people build streets that connect anymore. it drives me crazy.. but i did eventually find my way only 5 minutes late to my appoinment... thankfully i left umass 15 minutes early in case there was traffic.. i never hit any... it was a miracle. then to get home i couldn't get on 495 south from my usual place b/c the water flooded the road under the highway to get to the ramp, so i had to hop on northbound and pop a u-ey (sp? lol) i went over teh river which i didn't realize was right there..oh my god.. it was crazy flooded on lawrence....
Jen, thanks for the dry thoughts!
Icy, Welcome to my commentz section, n Big Brother has lost it long ago!
Google Earth is an eye-opener on that front. My truck is in the driveway in the last satelite shot... Can't wait to look up the flood areas...
MB, Too bad ya didn't take a cam! soundz pretty dangerous n inconvenient, glad ya made it OK!
Lawence was on the news before work today. Now they're reporting another dam is about to burst...
I got some guitars n equiptment on 114- Middleton, n more on Rt 1 in Saugus- both are under the waves now! Wow- Good thing Nancy has moved north! Should check on Dani still in Lynn tho-
(Saw pics of Marshfield flooded at Ocean Dr in that public slideshow)
Safe travels for the rest of the week 4 U!
hey.. just heard on the news that mbta is thinking of expanding the commuter line down your way and also into springfield... sounds good to me... have you heard this? it was on channel 5 and said your twon specifically along with NB
Snag - Man, talk about too much water. I've been keeping an eye on that situation up there. Your down isn't getting much help from nature this year eh?
Stay safe!
Peace & Hugs,
- Neo
That is a heck of a lot of water! Those are great pics tho. Hope everyone is safe and sound!
MB, ya I heard the Train-line plan. It's been proposed many times. Will wait til they actually go ahead with it... would make for lots more Day-Trippers-
Neo, I think I've been in the right spot at the right time... but both of my fav music supply places are (soggy) toast!
Intense disaster for our zone here
K, we're all OK. Still wonderin about a few friends tho...
Glad ya like my picks from the 300+ they had up at that link. There's plenty more there to choose from now! It's personal tragedy for many car owners. Bet the economic toll is huge!

Like, what would Ellen do if all the bridel shops flooded n closed down all her bookings? or if you can't navigate to work, lost your car, or house that was for an investment? Many businesses are down indefinately, n will have to lay-off folkz. The effect has many negative implications!
BTW - This happened in highly-populated areas in this state.
What if this type of weather becomes normal due to melting glaciers?
you are most fortunate!
and hety what are you doing blogging so late!???
David, Ya I am... takes awhile to unwind after working late hours!
FYI, the local TV news reported the following week that over 100 businesses are closed indefinately due to that flooding, the majority located in Peabody Center...
