Xmas Movie Review
Thanks to ION tv running contemporary Xmas themed films on week-ends since Thanksgiving, I've seen several movies for the first time I'd never never heard of before. This week I finally ran into one I just have to mention-
" Christmas Twister " Yep, I laughed n checked that title over n over again on the cable info screen. Strangely compared to most other Xmas movies, Xmas music in the sound track was almost completely absent. So was snow, cold weather, n there were very few items of holiday decor in the sets.
The setting appeared to probably be in Texas. A daughter caught in the storm path was caught by the split up parents skipping school to go to the mall. The only "Merry Christmas" in dialogue took place at the end of the film's "Let's go back home to the ranch" scene, Where minimal roof damage was shown as the re-united family unit had a BBQ.
I knew I recognized the male lead's face, n it took just a couple minutes to recall it was the guy who played Johnny Rico in the "Star Ship Troopers" film trio. A campy, Sci-fi story (I have on VHS) about shooting up swarms of alien bugs from space.
Recognizing him older with long, feathered hair made me laugh more. Casper Van Dien played opposite Victoria Pratt in the 2012 film. Clearly, I was more impressed with the title n theme concept than the plot story line. I recall many scenes of siren warnings, n folks screaming n running indoors. The twisters shown did look authentic. There were tons of wind-blowing shots.
Toward the final part of the story, the action slows way with people down in a smoky basement. Not my idea of a holiday classic at all.
If I were to make a movie with that title n cast, it would've been a very different story...
Have you seen any newer holiday films lately that made you do a double-take?

I haven't heard of that one before. My favorites are The Bishop's Wife (black and white version with Cary Grant), and Love Actually.
No really great Christmas movies unless I count the Peanuts movie that was out over Thanksgiving. I hate the schmaltzy movies where everyone sees the light of the holidays and forgives everyone. This is a nice theme, but it has been done to death.
Twisted Christmas, I'd say. :)
Finally got to see Elf, last year. LOOOOOOOVE it!!!! You've seen it?
Home Alone always delights, of course.
I didn't know Love Actually was a Christmas Movie, have no clue about what Love Atually is about. Heard the name before, but that's all.

Lynn, Neither I nor Jannie have heard of "Love Actually". I haven't sere "Bishop's wife" either- Bet it's at the Library which is closed until after New Years. Thanks for the recommendations! Have a great Holiday!
Tabor! I kinda expected decorations twirling in a tornado- but that wasn't in the film. Unfortunate it happened in real life the past 2 days! Originality is sorely lacking in entertainment (which isin't violent action at least)- Re-makes are killing me!
Jannie! I have "Elf!" on VHS in storage with the lost VCR I was unable to find recently. I also have lost cookie cutters, forgot to buy cheap ones 3 times while at the store this week, n am borrowing some today. All I could find in my room was a biscuit cutter n little square container to use...
Thank Lynn for the new movie to see-
Someone had a BBQ pizza this week- I passed on that one. Warm enough today tho!
Have fun with Kelly n Jim!
Spunky, I have been trying to call PAL from the bus stop- no signal good at home. Will keep trying this week. Hope you all get new Bo-bo s n alot of treats! Have fun with the Little Ones! Merry merry Ho-ho back to you!
