Strange Story

We were in the kitchen. My white-collared, grey-bearded, tall Husband was puttering about the cupboard, putting away groceries. Giggling near the table stood my pre-teen daughter, arm extended, playing string chase with her half-grown kitten skittering about the floor.

I'd been cleaning some dishes, almost done, but the sink was clogged n filling high with water. I reached over the counter n hit the garbage disposal switch, instigating a loud roar of grinding, while all else seemed to momentarily dissappear.

From my peripheral view I sensed more clamour, turned n saw the kitten legs splayed wide, landing in the sink from a huge leap. The sink was still full of water beginning to funnel down into the steel blades. She desperately clawed at the side of the sink. I scrambled to the switch, but not fast enough- through the rushing water I saw Kitty's rear feet descend into the large drainhole.

The noise lowered quickly, but far too slow. I grabbed Kitty up under her armpits, then wrapped her hanging legs in one hand n turned her to inspect the feet. One paw was missing a clean slice off it's center pad. I swiveled, holding the dripping wet, in shock, n submissive Kitty, knowing she needed a quick bandage, n I couldn't let go.

"Please Hon, Grab me the Bacitracin, Then some cotton n tape-"

Hon began searching in all the first aid storage zones, the drawer, the medicin bin, The bathroom cabinet, the travel Bag...

"I can't Find the Bacitracin!"

I stood with both hands securing kitty from further injury, n waited, n waited, with a growing sense of dread n dispair that without the Bacitracin, the wound would get infected, n the bandage would stick to the open wound. The almost empty tube had to be there somewhere, but my hands were tied!

I felt helpless, n guilty for turning on the sink disposal...

N Then I awoke.

I'd woken up several times, too groggy n unmotovated to get up yet. Some sleep study experts previously reported that folks only enter REM after 4 hours, but it's common for me to dream within minutes of falling asleep.

It was one of those quick, fall back into sleep dreams that left me with so many questions today.

Where did this one come from?

First of all, I wish my kitchen was large, bright, n shiny like that one, but it isin't. I don't have a sink garbage disposal. That's ok, I don't like them. I'm single now, my children are grown, moved out many years ago, n my last kitty left since '07 is over a dozen years old.

That wasn't really me there. But the core of the story- grabbing the kitty to take care of her, n the Bacitracin importance to do that- is.

Flashback:

Awhile back in High School, I raised generations of lab mice for intelligence experienents, (I attended the State Science Fair at MIT). My first old mouse, Ben, (named from the original "Willard" film), got picked on by an aggressive son. I heard them fighting n broke it up, getting him out of there. Poor Ben's ear pinae had been totally bitten off!

I gave Ben his own little cage from then on, n applied Bacitracin ointment several times per day to his ear until his wound healed. But- I kid you not- His ear didn't just heal...It grew back!

The new pinae wasn't uniformly round, as a regular mouse ear, but wavy, n larger than the non-altered one. Bacitracin's ability to heal skin made a very large impression on me.

Just last week I used Bacitracin on two wounds from work, the back of a heel with skin scrapped off by a malfunctioanal heavy, metal, food rack, n a large, openned blister on my right thumb knuckle. Both healed quickly with out infection.

My tube of good stuff is getting low... so guess what I bought at the store today...

Hmmm.... alot to think about there with the negative states of them in the dream applied...

Such as: water going down into the chopper hurting the cat's foot with no way to fix = Emotions churning about beliefs of female society aspects like being stuck in low-paid work, n unable to get power over the sitation... Perhaps!

See the Sea

I just had a hankering to see some July pics as we go thru a cold blast n burst of snow with a front.

Taken at my fave Beach in July 2010, it faces south into the Gulf Stream fed waters of Buzzards Bay n follows the line of Hog Island Channel, the shipping lanes toward the New Bedford area of the state, (channel located at the center of the horison).

Yep, it works- I feel warm just looking at it for a few minutes.

Most folks just see a ton of open water, but I can pick out bits of familiar lands, spits, rocks, n lighthouses across the way, n also vessels way out there. When I was a teen I got to traverse that entire zone in a small Boston Whaler boat with my water pals. Even that open space holds dear memories for me.

I'll try to remember those warm fuzzies as I trudge back to another night of work in the crusty ice crystals before I finally end my work week. I hope to get back to that wonderful place soon, even in the cold. It's been too long-

How many were there, n how fast did this occur? What critters paw prints are descernable? Maybe it was one hyper-active squirrel, or as many as eight... But the evidence is clear-

They know where I throw the food off the porch now, even after a snow fall, n also- They have alot more energy than I do!

Snow Dreams

If I hadn't been in such a hurry to get to work the other day, I could've had some better, nifty shots of the tall, fluffy snow. I didn't take the cam out there because shoveling to get out on the road was priority n was alot of work to do. The news said we got about a foot here. It was light-weight to shovel at least. The two bottom stairs were completely buried, so it was blown deeper than that out front.

This is a window shot of MapleBeard's branches with the boatramp beach way in the background, from my kitchen during the storm, (so was the pic in the previous post).

Here's my Day Off finally, but it's too late for snow pics now... The weather warmed up again with a heavy rain n thick foggy drizzle to ride home in, n so most of the snow is melted already! As I watch the early am Boston news, the Temp stamp is 52F on the bottom of the screen! Just crazy, roller-coaster January weather for this place!

I'll prob bemoan not getting those pics for awhile!

Been a wild football week for New Englanders with the Patriots beating the Ravens by default to get in the SuperBowl, just to face the Giants again! 2008 didn't go so well the last time, but reporters keep reminding us that alot of the players have changed. I'll bemoan having to work without TV, radio, or VCR during the SuperBowl too... Madonna has the half-time gig this year, should be a good show. But I'll prob miss the whole thing... Rats!

After work I had to make the second drive home this week in the hieght of a snow storm- Luckily it was only a few inches deep. Most of the ride is on state roads, which were sanded.

I haven't been outside in daylight to get any pics in it. I've observed some ice around the beaches while driving n from the windows the past few days. Saturday we're expecting a larger snowstorm here. I get to work for that one too... Another joyful, slippery drive to look forward to...

Really tho- I'd rather stay home n avoid all the snow cleaning with sore arms. Some of that is definately in store for me before leaving for work again. I'd better go rest up...

My brain immediately recognized the eyes of a retriever-mix dog looking straight at me, with red nostrils, holding a blanket in it's mouth- then my mind filled in the rest.

I'm surprized that folks saw different critters! (cat, bear).

In dream interpretation, dogs stand for friends. Maybe happiness is a warm puppy with a warm blanket...

In the winter-time, I'm always trying to get out the window pics to do with the weather condition effects. This was an old shot taken of the sunrise in November 2010, thru waterey ice. there's just no telling how these experiments will come out, or what they'll produce with my originaly concocted Paintshop Pro Effects regimen....

I've been keeping this result secret over a year now- one of my fave surprizes... Do you see what I see?

Warmer Thoughts

I just took a most serene pic from years ago, n made myself laugh at it... (Dog Face?)

The surprize factor is definately what entertains me with these projects. Without my VHS working, I'm alot more entertainment challenged lately. I've read more novels in the past year than in the whole preceeding decade, I think.

My main challenge today is trying to sit here without the 3 blankets I'd prob need to feel warmish in here. We're doing about 6F degrees outside now without windchill. The kitchen is way warmer, about 65F, n it's 10 degrees cooler where I'm sitting. But the floors are the worst part even with slippers. Time for double socks, too!

I've been unsystematically going thu old files the past few weeks , reading old jokes n looking for play pics.

This one's from my first trip ever to Florida in April 1997. I remember the ride from Tampa toward the Clearwater area, because it was so balmy I had to start stripping off some clothing layers I'd needed at home. This Sunset over the Gulf of Mexico pic was taken on film thru a window screen from my hotel room the first evening there, n scanned into the machine well before I started ESR.
Florida is a way warmer thought about now...

When I was a few decades younger I used to get really nervous bad stuff would happen on Friday the 13th. I was very superstitious, n tried not to go anywhere or do major things on those days for many years.

A few bad things actually happened to me on those days years later, n I blamed the date for those... Somebody once convinced me nothing was wrong with that number. So it was ok to get married that day (The only free date the preacher had open). Altho it wasn't a Friday, That whole part of my life turned out very bad for me. The divorce was final on a 13 too!

Then some one I loved very much died on the Friday the 13th. That got me hiding in the house when that day rolled around again for alot of years. I'd even called in for work due to being paraniod of getting in the car those days.

The past decade or so I've convinced myself it's not the number or dates fault, even if stuff sometimes goes wrong then. I've had no choice but to ignore the foreboding thoughts associated with Friday the 13th, n get to work n do what needs to get done. Definately tho, I'm more comfortable staying home for it.

Anyone one else feel foreboding evil on this day?
Perhaps it's just caused by watching the Jason films as a teen... the Heebee-Geebee, crawly feeling- Of course reading a good murder mystery book today doesn't help either! (Just finished The Poet by Micheal Connolly) .

Sometimes when I use this number for the "ball", it hits on my lottery ticket for a few bux. Today I have to go out n face the world, n ignore what I used to think like it means nothing to me. It's still there tho- the paranoia.

This pic I got the altered images from today was taken in January 2009 near the boat ramp beach. We don't have snow here now, btw.

Super Shark

Another critter followed with passion here on ESR is the shark. (Shark Tail Soup, Tiger Shark caught off the Vineyard)

Earlier this week while feeling very under the weather which was pretty low... I'd seen another news sound-bite about a newly discovered hybrid shark species. I'm just getting around to checking it out now.

The news never explained which species were mixed, so I had to chase down the info.

57 of the animals were found, n have successfully reproduced several generations of their new line, which also has a new territory.

The new species is a cross between two types of distinct Blacktips off the Australian East coast. One is the smaller sized, tropical Australian Blacktip, the other is the sub-tropical Common Blacktip, which both have different territories separated by water temperature. Hybridization is common in fish, but not sharks.
It's another edu-ma-cational, scientific, recent surprize that wowed me.....

New Buzz

Exciting (kinda) update on a previous subject here:

Back in '08 on ESR I wrote a post discussing different bee species n Colony Collapse Dissorder threatening the survival of Honey Bees worldwide, n the fact that the cause was a complete mystery.

Personally, I'd miss putting honey in my tea n oatmeal, never mind eating all the commercial bee-keeper, pollinated fruit, veggies, n grain products I normally consume.

This early am I saw a WNN (World News Now, abc tv 01/05/12) article on biology Professor John Hafernik at San Francisco State University, who stopped on his way to the office n picked up some confused honeybees he saw on the pavement, placed them in a vial on his desk at work, then a week later found brown, fly pupae in the vial with the bees.

The since studied parasite, phorid fly, or apocephalus borealis, is laying eggs inside bees, n the pupae are popping out other openings, killing them. How disgusting is that? Stuff crawling through my insides would disorient me too... (Yuck! Just like in the film "Alien"...)

It's an interesting discovery n theory connected to the honey bee problem. Here's a few more links if your interested in more of the gory details...

What's New?

Already it's the third day of 2012, n I've written the wrong year down three times! Can't seem to stop my hand from the automatic scrolling...

For my first free day of the year, freezing temps are taking over. It's been unbelievably above normal all but a few days since summertime, so I shouldn't complain about the sudden chill in here...

Besides the needed errands n laundry chores, my only big plan is trying to get enough sleep. I'm so glad my work-week is over n I'm not required to be anywhere by a deadline finally.

For so many weeks I've been operating on "TIRED" n it finally caught up to me n smacked me upside the head with a cold turned into a painfull sinus infection. The past few days at work I've said the words "Thank God for Peppermint" more times than I can count. All the mints n candy canes are used up- I need more-

I'm not sure when I'll get out during daylight to get new pics again, so I've been trolling thru the ancient files in search of unused examples to try effects on. Today's offering was found in the May 2007 file, from almost 5 years ago. I like the top the best.

Today's pic was taken out the front window at a little tree lit up on the deck. It's only a few inches over 2 feet high, n has been knocked around in the winds a few times. I like that it's visible from the main road, n high enough to be seen from across the B-cove.

Alot more folks have lights up this year, but that one crazy, overdone place has been dark as I pass by so far-
Our Electric Company has been reported as being the most expensive in New England. Perhaps they moved or are limiting the "on" hours, or they had wind damage to fix from the past week.

I had to go a long way around a traffic jam today, n was rewarded with the display tour...

Until this holiday season, I had an Aunt that always sent out a holiday newsletter, recounting the entire year's highlights of her life. Some folks bemoan receiving such lengthy, impersonal, one size-fits-all, mass mailings, but I always looked forward to hearing what her family'd been up to.

I remember on a few occassions a long time ago my father had sent out a similar, one paged, typed synopsis of our immediate family events, but some of us would always get offended by his tongue in cheek humor n some jokes he made, which he'd thought made amusing reading. He was not well known for being tactful...

Dad's update never came close to his sister-in-law's cheerfully recounted adventures of church choir concerts, charitable deeds, visits, n family trips. If I had to write one of those I'd have to make up fillers to get a whole page. All I accomplish lately is work n survival. It's all I can do to come up with about three, non-depressing sentences to write into my Holiday cards... I avoid blogging about some depressing things too.

Aunt Lois the fiesty red-head was a super trooper. She found positive in everything. After a divorce, then illness taking her second husband, even after years of fighting one cancerous illness after the other herself, going thru every treatment imaginable. This Thanksgiving she was thankful to finally be released from her pained, human form.

I've been really depressed to not have been able to drop everything that week-end, or have funds to travel halfway down the coast to visit my gathered family, or even be able get to her service in time. Since my parents have been gone, I find losing their generation of immediate family members very difficult.

Now as I pick up the few, sparcely detailed cards in the mail, I'm reminded of how well I knew my Aunt due to her annual holiday newsletters, even tho she relocated so far away years ago. I save all my holiday cards (I don't get alot), n I know I'm going to dig out last years n read it again, just because I'll miss getting a new one this year.

There's nothing wrong with sharing your life that way when you've worked to fill it with so many worthwhile pursuits, n are a good writer too. (Just don't make fun of your folks). Even if some readers may think you're boasting about how blessed a life you've had compared to them.

My first pic taken in December is from last week. Another colorful window shot of the B-cove thru the silhouetted trees. The purply-pink is so appealing to me...

I've managed to turn it into a silly-looking critter! Unless you think it's something else- besides a paisley-cloaked ox with red eyes... n it's still got purply-pink!

That "Sunrise, Sunset" song from Fiddler On the Roof has been going thru my mind alot lately, as I'm noticing time whippng past me n the kids growing so fast. I'm not a "Yente" in real life, but once played her role in the production back in High School. I seem to be missing all the sunsets. I'm leaving for work after sundown these days. Can't wait for the daylight to get longer again... Almost solstice time.

Usually my windows are iced over by this date, but it's over 50 F degrees again! Have a better week-end than I will- I'll be working...

The cake was continuously frosted cupcakes that we ripped apart one at a time. All the kids had fun. I was so tired because I didn't sleep that day n had to leave early to get ready for work.

But J was quick to point out, he wasn't really going to be 7 until today. He's getting so old n smart!

Tree Trunk

The sunsets around 4:15 pm these days has really curbed my outdoor cam use. The 6th of the month already n I've taken zero pics so far! Also the sun's disk descent location has moved so far over now it's no longer over the cove water.

I've recently picked up alot of freeloaders out the window. I'd been tossing out stale bread goods for 3 grey squirrels, but a bunch more are now cavorting around out there, most noticeably 4 new smaller babies n parents. Today I counted 9! Yikes, that's alot of bouncy, fluffy tails fighting over crumbs.

A white with black cat was seen on the couch on the front porch on my way in several different nights, then running away. It dawned on me I'd seen him before a few times last summer eating the squirrel bread n shooed him away from the prime, baited, squirrel hunting spot by the Huckleberry tree.

Mischief has been refusing alot of canned food recently, so I started leaving a dish of the rest of the unused can contents out on the couch after work, n it's always cleaned out fast. I haven't seen who's eating it tho. Recently I noticed a different cat, black with a little white running away. Then that one started a loud cat fight with a long-haired grey cat out in the squirrel zone the other day. The grey one I know used to belong to a now deceased neighbor.

I'd thought the coyotes spotted around the past few years had been eating the strays out of existence, but apparently there's more out there hidden than I'd suspected. At least I don't think I'm feeding the oppossums... but sometimes I smell the skunks rooting for buried bread too.

Lucky for the critters I bring some extras home from work n don't eat it all. N I still have a pile of cheap cat food my cat is too picky to eat. There's quite a racket on the roof whenever I sleep later now- those darn tree rats are training me to hurry n open the window before that early sunset!

This pic was taken from the ground last week of Maplebeard's trunk where it splits reaching skyward. There's alot of hollows n critter homes up there. The feeding spot gets switched to around that tree near the porch once it gets too icy to open the window. It's still been so warm here- I'm still getting a beet crop growing out on the deck!

Back to a rainy day to sleep in for Day Off, but I'm sure the furry neighbors will wake me up anyhow...

Berry Decs

December is already rolling in with some cooler temps. November will go down as the warmest one here ever... n I'm glad to have saved some heat bill bux. I'll be pinching pennies all month anyhow. I anticipate another very busy month chasing that short daylight.

The best part of making it to recycling this week (we have to deliver it) besides clearing some space, was finding a handful of books to read for free from the book trailer- I think book recycling is a great idea. That's even better than the library, because I don't have to rush to return them. Among the several I picked up is another Micheal Connelly A Darkness More Than Night, Stephanie Meyer's Twilight, Brad Melter The Book of Fate, n a non-fiction by Samm S. Baker Your Key to Creative Thinking. I'm hoping to find more ways to do better soon, n brain greasing is always good.

Usually I wait for snow to take the bright trumpet berry pics out in the yard. I like the altered pics from it, helping to perk up my brain today. A little tree on the deck volunteered to play out-the-window holiday tree this year, after I found a string of working mini-lights.

Once again, back to chores, sleep, n work...

Sunrise

After a long period of camera avoidance, I finally found something I wanted to take a pic of outside the kitchen window. Sunrise over the boat ramp beach at B-cove was so colorful, I opened the side window n zoomed to get a decent shot.

Although days have been crazy warm here for the end of November, early am.s have been chilly. I loath letting the expensive, minimal heat out, but the windows always fog up overnight, plus need a washing to get a pic thru them.

So many folks have been out on the road between 1 to 2 am on the way home this week-end, probably shopping or working overnight. I'm not participating in any holiday shopping this week-end. I avoid the commercialism of the holiday.

On the news there were reports of crazy violence at Walmarts over that stuff- so sad folks get so angry over things. I don't have a flat screen tv, or Playstation, or wii here. That's ok with me because I can live without it.

Did you hit any good overnight sales? n if so, what did you get?

Mid Nov Pics

Here's a branch of a very tall shrub in the yard n it's altered cousin, which I really like. We're having such good temps again it's tough to imagine what mid-November is usually like.

So many movies are coming out now I want to see, I wish I had more bux to see them all. There's a new Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides out on DVD, The Last Harry Potter DVD installment, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II, n also a new Twilight saga, Breaking Dawn Part I in the theatres. I particulary enjoy movie series.

They remind me of how watching TV shows used to be like when I was growing up- I'm very bored with basic channel pickings, n miss the ongoing stories told in The Brady Bunch, n Happy Days. MASH, Taxi, Alf, ER, these are the shows that made sense to me n grabbed my attention. Who could forget how hilarious Three's Company and One Day At a Time were to see? I also miss the X-files n Star Trek spin-offs.

But all I get to see these days are re-hashed Law & Orders, no match to the old Hill Street Blues, or Forenic shows a shadow of Quincy MD with Jack Klugman. Then we had good Western series with Little House on the Prairie n Doctor Quinn Medicine woman. There were so many good series n sitcoms to follow along with in the old days. I have no patience with the reality TV shows on lately.

The networks also had alot of great TV Movie series such as Roots n Midnight, n who could forget the drama of Dallas n Knots Landing? I'm sure there are few young folks who even knew that JR (Larry Hagman) used to Play "Tony*" (*edit- I messed up n typed:"the second Darren" Which was from Bewitched- see G's comment) on the old I Dream Of Jeannie show. (Hope I got all that right- It's all direct from my fried after work* memory banks).

Entertainment simply isin't keeping up a fast enough pace with the new stuff we're ready for, n rehashing ad-nauseum what we've already seen.

If you don't have money for the the 900 channel Cable deal these days, new shows n movies are very limited. I'll soon get to see one of the films I've waited for. Meanwhile I'm getting sick of the already saw that DVD or tv show thought.

I hope you didn't mind my trail down nostalgia tv lane, I miss that ride. Maybe you even remember some of them...

We've just had some incredibly nice n warm days for the second week of November. After the clock got set back an hour this past week-end for EDST (Eastern Daylight Savings Time), I'd thought it'd be easier to get up earlier. However, I've taken immediate advantage of sleeping more instead. Fatigue finally caught up to me.

The first Day Off I slept all the way until sunset knowing I didn't have to be anywhere on time. Errands are few this week, except laundry. Alot of yard work needs to get done, n after wasting a beautiful, 70F day sleeping thru the whole thing, I resolved to get up earlier Day two, n not waste as much pleasant weather.

Before I cleared the clogged storm drain of leaves, worked on breaking down fallen branches, n raked off the front walkway, I snapped a few colorful spots which finally showed up. The top pic is a small tree (10 feet) in the fading sunlight, which sprouted from a stump in the yard of a fave tree the landlord had chopped down years ago- (Yay!).

Locally these are called a "Burning Bush" due to the bright red they become this time of year. They're plentiful on the hill across the road. This is on a corner of those woods right across from my place.

Finally looking like Autumn here on ESR. I'm also really greatful to save heat bux, n see actual sunshine on a Day Off!
I'm about to have a busy few weeks to fatigue me out some more (darn Co-workers taking vacas), n will be daylight challenged as I must leave for work at sundown time now...

The Sun was just under the horizon to the right beyond this pic's frame- but the pretty clouds were to the left over the harbor, so I got their reflection around the almost deserted Short Pier. Just a quick update to let everyone know all is well here, altho many in my state are snowed in without power n heat. The radar on the weather report showed the snow skirting right around my town! We were spared, except heavy rains n high winds. I made it home from work safely. The poor deck plants got rolled around in the winds a bit, but most will be ok. (still haven't picked them up).
Reports say 11 folks died in storm related issues so far- one guy was electrocuted on an unseen live wire. I am indeed lucky n blessed.

Cold Deck Garden

I made it out to the deck before the daylight faded for the first time in a couple of weeks. Here's the blooms I mentioned in a comment recently. There's Marigolds, Caterbury Bells, Impatiens, n a few Petunias that have survived the cold this week so far. At least the recent cold has gotten rid of the large, green catepillars that have been eating the Petunias up all fall. The garden pest bug spray didn't even slow them down.

The frozen temps are supposed to arrive later this week. I'm wondering if the remaining beet plants will continue to survive in the cold to eventually get to picking size. That'll be this year's experiment, besides finding Garden Imps in my altered images...

The tree leaves just aren't getting the color going this abnormal year, as I predicted. I'll just have to find color where I can.

Here comes Halloween n I'll be missing the whole thing. I like the creativity in costume n decor invention associated with the festivities. At work tho, I expect a crazy, big order the night before to do me in. I couldn't even wake up on Day Off today- so burnt out from the past week. I can't wait 'til clock Fall Back on Nov. 6 this year. I need that extra hour ASAP!

Today I wasted alot of free time looking for things stored away. I hate when stuff isin't where you thought. When I moved the backroom boxes due to a roof leak awhile back, alot of winter things went MIA, n I still need to do alot more searching. Time to get plastic n insulation up this week also.

I was surprized to learn something zoology related while reading my store brand, instant oatmeal packet recently. (I read animal encyclopedias as a kid). They have a trivia question with the answer on the opposite side on them.

"What's a group of Bears called?"

Then I went on a search to try to confirm that answer. That bear group term definition isin't included on most dictionary sites. I found sleuth is not only an overused term to describe a detective, but is also a trail of an unknown person or animal, a shadow, a bloodhound, a board game, a computer game (1983), 3 movies (1925, 1972, 2007), a play (1970 ), an UNIX-based computer investigation kit, a former tv channel, n an anthropomorphic (Sherlock Holmes) dog Disney character who had Mickey Mouse as an assistant.

I even felt like a sleuth hunting down all this previously unsuspected info on the one term I'd never have imagined to be what a gaggle of geese is to a sleuth of bears...

Malfunction

An amazing colorful sunrise was out my kitchen windows before I went to sleep. I have a much better view of it than I used to before Hurricane Irene. There were alot more trees n vegetation in the way.

When I went to open a window to get a pic in the dark, I managed to knock down a couple of plants n got dirt all over the place. Then I had to pick it up before lieing down after my very long work week of holiday orders had finally ended.

There have been a few more incon- veniences tripping me up lately. A couple weeks ago I went to play a VHS tape, n the audio came out as a loud, grating noise. At first I thought it was the tape cassette going bad, then tried several more n the audio problem persisted. I use the box as my cable channel converter for the old TV with the remote to change channels, n also patch a separate DVD player into the jacks. Without the VHS box, I've been unable to get the DVD to work directly into the TV jacks.

A few years ago when the last combo DVD/VHS player had died, I'd had this one bought in '01 for $40 stashed away for emer- gencies. Right now I can't afford another VHS while Little Truck needs more repairs, so it may be a very long winter without my VHS movie collection for entertainment, (LOR, Star Wars, Jurrassic Park, Spiderman, ect) . I don't have a great deal of DVDs of my old Favs I want to see again either.

Slowly I've been building up my freezer food stash since it all was trashed after the long post-hurricane power-out. Last night I went to heat up a frozen Stouffers lasagne, which takes about 10 minutes in the microwave. After about a minute, the power diplay panel made a popping sound n fizzled out. So I had to wait an hour to cook it the other way. The microwave's dead! Now there'll be few quick hot dinners after work until I can get a new one. I really shouldn't complain since that machine has lasted me ever since 1990... 21 years!

I hope the rest of my machines stay up n running for awhile... My own malfuntions are enough extra work as it is!

What a silly looking thing I found today upon applicatiom of my usual techniques...
Surprized, dis-embodied eyes steaming with heavy thought clouds, separated from legs in pink hose, under a flared, blue skirt- What else could it be?

Before that discovery, the image's bare color essence revealed rare, mysterious beauty. This speaks to me...

I was thinking someone needed directions...
... Coming from a car driver stopping in the middle of the D-bridge to interrupt probably my last shot of a fading sunset over the M-cove sky. I did not turn about, but held cam steady n clicked.
"... If you climb to the top of that hill you'll get a great picture of the whole cove" she loudly suggested.

I bit my tongue.
"No thanks, I take this shot here every week." Is all that came out in response.
Then she drove on, but many aggrivated thoughts entered my mind from the brief encounter clouding over what would have been peaceful.
I don't want that hill pic.
That's not where the light is. It doesn't show the reflection of the sunset over the water. Even at sunrise, you'd have to aim at the other B-cove, hidden behind trees n homes.
Been there done that, n the power lines are in the way of what I'd call a good pic from up there. She missed the point of what I'm doing.
Who is that person to tell me what I want a pic of, as though I don't know where a good shot is?

If she wants to see those shots, why doesn't she go get her cam n climb the steep, brambled, n newly tree-toppled pathways up there in the bug swarms as the light fades, n then realize it's too dark to even get any pic? N too dark to climb down...
I've only been living here about 30 years. I don't know what I'm doing, or what I want to see...?
I'm so independent n focused on what I prefer already, that I really don't want anyone telling me what to do, especially in my free time on my Day Off! Wow, I really resented that womans intrusion into my chosen activty. Why can't I just let it go? Why did I let it upset my peace-time?

Now, too late, I wish I'd had a printed business card with my blog addresses on it... I'll start working on making a card so the next time- maybe I can hook a new reader.
My stats the past few weeks shows ESR traffic so very low. Many bloggers have slowed down on the net clicking this summer.

Would this unsolicited suggestion have bothered you as it did me?

Another vine I walked past last Day Off on my way to the D-bridge decorates a tree beside the M-cove.

Red vines are the sure sign that summer is past in this neck of the woods, before other greens even think of other color.

Red vines are trusted to tell me when I need to ready the coats n warm blankets, n give me such pretty pics to play with each autumn.

Feeling Fall

The weather took a downturn the past few days from the 80's F to the 60's for daylight, n 40's overnight. I quickly got the storm windows down, n have started using the hot-water bottles in socks to stay warm.

Ever since Hurricane Irene, I've noticed all the trees have been quickly defoliating. It will likely be a dud color year for the leaf turning, which is usually peak here the first of November.
My altered pics continue becoming stranger, as evidenced by this example... (Hey Mon n Boo-Boo Kitty with a mouse on his head? any better guesses?)

This was the first pic I took walking out on the D-Bridge that day back at the start of the month.

Opposite the awesome, partly cloudy sunsets that happen at Fav Beach the sky often turns pastel colors, as it did the last day of August. Difficult not to feel calm n peaceful sitting on a rock watching the sky change after a rocky journey there.

Ten years have passed n it still upsets me as if the death of a parent, putting a knot on my gut that churns. How could so much human damage caused by other humans ever be acceptable?

People were going about their day to day business, doing their jobs, n taking planned trips on a beautiful clear day.

Suddenly the day turned into Hellfire, slammed by large planes, offices exploding, evacuating, fires smoking, folks trapped, folks jumping, buildings collapsing, Pentagon hit, government security shattered, Going down to doom in a field triumphantly thwarting further destruction...

My Day to Day became unimportant in that shadow.

Sleep became non-existent seeing the nightmares.

The intensity of the memory survives.

The number 2996 had died.

On this date I always experience a day of mourning, especially as I'm forced to continue my Day to Day activities, for I'm no longer complacent.

This year there's a new Tribute Memorial with fountains n specially arranged names at Ground Zero in NYC. Looks nifty in the pics n concept. I hope to see it someday.

There's also a yearly blog project to pay tribute to the victims.

I'm only able to reflect n deal with the day's feelings quietly on my own, still vivid in my mind. I'll never be at peace remembering 911...

Here's my best pic from sunset over the M-cove at Low Tide on the first of the month. I always prefer purple n pink sunset color. With the added elements of reflection colors, n water ripples, the composition intrigues me.

Yesterday we began a stretch of cool, rainy, grey days for the rest of the week.

18th Century

Being a Night Owl was tough during the long-term power outage this past week. Luckily I'm the prepared sort, having been a Girl Scout Of America for 10 years growing up. Also, I'd never realized how handy it would work out for improvised lighting because I procrastinate packing away some holiday decorating trinkets.

A glass snowman with a glowing sparkle-light n lantern which ran on 3-AA batts was my Livingroom navigation light.
In the Bathroom a lithium cell powered, plastic, fake, flickering Ghost candle-cup helped me out. To counter-act the ghost, while needing more light, there was an Angel, stained glass votive stand with some tea-lights in it. A few years ago at a clearance sale at the pharmacy, I'd bought a bag of 50 unscented tea-lights for about one dollar! I finally made a decent dent in that bag.

On the kitchen table I went through about 5 of them. They last longer when blown out to re-harden after lighting a new one from it, to save on matches. When needing more light I supplimented with a regular candle for short periods, careful not to use it up. I found a 30 year-old, small Santa candle still in the junk drawer too! How do you increase candlepower without additional candles? Easy, put it infront of portable mirrors to multiply illumination power.

A co-worker recently gave me a car-battery booster because the tire-inflator was broken. I made sure it charged up the day before the storm, n used the AC outlet on it to re-charge my cell phone several times, because the house phone was out, n my cell runs out of juice fast when in constant use. It could've also been used for the lamp, or TV, but I didn't know how long it would need to last for the phone safety factor. The elec Co's estimate for returning juice was Saturday, so I felt fortunate I didn't have to wait that long after-all.

Days before the predicted storm I'd put the freezer-pak collection in the freezer. All week I'd worked at eating the good stuff out of there, so the ice-cream wouldn't become a casualty n be wasted. Then about 6 hours after power was out, I put a frozen pak next to the milk in the fridge, n repeated at intervals. I also had back-up boxed milk on the shelf, n canned condensed milk, which don't need refrigeration.

I used the gas stove downstairs to heat water, n hard boiled the eggs so they wouldn't go bad. While I was down stairs I ended up bailing water from the defrosted freezer, n big hunks of frost broke off it, which I then put in zip bags n used as freezer paks in my frig. Doing this helped save my tangerines, lettuce, n unopenned cheeze too.

I stretched the use of the hot kettle water by mixing it with some cold in a basin to wash, n made tea in thermos travel mags several at a time to last all day.

Sunday, day of the storm I didn't have to work, but on Monday the power was back on there, so I did. Power was still out at home. Washing up in the dark after the sweaty job was tough, using a bucket of warm water made with kettle water n wash-clothes. It was really tough getting my hair done too.

If I had to do things this way all the time, little out of the necessary would ever get done. I felt like I was living in the 18th century- but they didn't have glowing, battery powered snowmen then...

Reflecting Flight

A days end on a free day at my fave place in the world gave me this moment to keep forever.

This week I have some free time off from work. I'd been hoping to go swimming more but fave beach is closed due to so much debris being washed up. At least I got some beautiful sunset pics to enjoy n share.

Also MB n her Little Ones are here for the week-end. A PC party/ BBQ is tomorrow- a great way to celebrate The end of Summer.

All seems normal at the pier until you realize it's Labor Day week, the last week of summer, n there are no crowds!

Extreme Irene

On Sunday after the worst of the wind passed, I drove over to work because my phone wouldn't get thru. All the way down the main road's busy zone the traffic lights were out. Alot of other folks were driving fast n carelessly thru the numerous intersections. It was a white knuckle ride. Winds were still fairly strong.

Traffic lights in the middle of the ride were working, then out again. Tree debris was everywhere.
Power was out at work, but folks were there. I could've elected to go to the Boston plant who was covering our company's area for the day after the Hurricane. I declined that offer, n on the way back home stopped at the D-bridge n took a few pics. I stayed near the abuttment, it seemed too windy to go out to the middle of the rail.

The maple trees in front of the R's next door lost a few sections. This one I could see out the kitchen window, resting on their upstairs deck, n also on my telephone wires! (can see if you look closely).

Out in the backyard normally clear access to the road is totally blocked by hunks of the huge Ecclesiastical tree.

I'm not sure if this hunk of maple is from my tree or the R's, but I'm very grateful it landed next to Little Truck, n not on it!

I'd noticed quite a few thrill seekers out driving in the middle of the strong storm portions. We were spared alot of rain, but had winds. At one point I looked out the front window- all was okay, turned around to do something, glanced back, n in that short time a tree had fallen from the woods across the road in front of my house!

This dude with a (pixelated) CT plate stopped, openned the trunk, pulled out a chainsaw- n began chopping to move it out of the road! I grabbed my cam n went out on the gale-force deck to grab his pic- He looked up n I waved n yelled a hearty "Thankyou! That was really quick service!" How nice was that? wow

I'll be chopping branches for weeks here...

The power is back on today!

Whew! Did I miss it... Internet, lights, TV, hot water, n easy cooking-

Taking pics feels so unsatisfying when you can't even upload to see what you've got...

I'm ok here, no holes in the house or major damage, just alot of tree hunks everywhere. I'm so lucky they all missed me n Little Truck, landing on all sides of the house.

Everything slowed Waayyyy down, along with motovation to do anything unnecessary, especially in the dark.

After I realized the power came on, I didn't even hurry up n blog, due to the massive game of catch-up, clean-up, n food spoilage control going on.

Will add bits to the story soon...

... or not, here it comes! but according to Harvey Lenard the weather guy's twitter updates from 3 to 4 am Irene is downgraded to cat 1 strength now, n the wind n rain may last up to 18 hours from Saturday to Sunday night.

The Governor declared an early State of Emergency, n said to stay off the roads, but my boss has mandated attendence. I'm not looking forward to driving in it or the possibility of power-outage, but at least the storm is losing power.

Here we have to watch out for storm surge flooding in the water of Buzzards Bay on south facing beaches- which includes my Fav Beach.

I hope it all goes ok in Long Island too.

We're getting the outer-fringe showers to the storm now. Still a few things to get ready before leaving for work today- like a bag of travel clothes to keep in Little Truck, but the water is bottled n the list ticks down with the clock... Will let you know how it goes, (If the power holds)-

An earthquake shook most of the Eastern USA, n I slept right thru it-

After waiting over two weeks for a designated "Crash-Out Day" to sleep as long as I needed, I slept all the way until 5 pm! When I woke up I heard the TV News about the strong quake felt by so many, even up in Boston.

The Great White Sharks that have been off the Chatham shore for two summers now have made the national news today too, thanks to video by shark taggers.

I've only swum over my head once so far this summer. I have to admit tho Whites haven't been seen in the waters near my town, I'm paraniod.

This week I get to look forward to tracking Hurricane Irene, said to likely be heading this direction. It wouldn't be fun to have to move all the deck stuff, now that it's all proliferating like crazy, (Thank Miracle Grow).

At least the muggies are on holiday This Day Off, now I just need all the laundry washed n hung out.

Water Play

Last week I skipped a day of sleep to go to Marshfield n visit with Little Ones n other family. The town is north of the Cape, n south of Boston. It was mostly cloudy that day, but the sky broke thru to blue in a few spots. It wasn't really hot, but warm enough to play in the crazy, High Tide, bubbley surf.

The Little ones had a blast in the lively water. They're used to the calm waters of our village harbor n coves at home. We had to be mindful of the strong undertow n rapidly rising depth as the water crept all the way up to the large sea wall.

We enjoyed our cloudy field Day, but I was so tired n still haven't caught up! After I got home, I'd walked down the hill to M-cove for the previous post's pretty pic.

I think I've played with these enough for now-

One more day of work to go...

I had to take the chicken wire off the window-box containers, because all the plants are getting too tall to fit under it. The impatiens are now overtaking the petunias.

In the previous comment section Grannie Annie requested some altered Trumpet flower pics n here are a few. You're all automataically expecting the weird n strangely colored morph cousins I find via Paint Shop Pro even when I don't have time for it! I've been playing with these all week, trying to decide- but still don't feel a strong "special" liking for any of them. Guess I'm spoiled by great discoveries too!

The air's been so humid here this week. TV news has been depressing with the Stock dive n riots in the UK.

Work has been so crazy busy all week. The Pan Mass Challenge 190 mile bike marathon from Sturbridge to P-town to raise money for the Dana-Farber Institute was last week-end, n we helped provide breakfast goods for the riders at the Bourne stay-over spot. Also it was the Blues Festival in my village on Saturday, which I'm depressed about missing.

They started charging $20 per seat this year for an event that used to be free, by roping off the best viewing zone of the bandshell. I can hear it all fine at home anyway, but I had to go to work right after the first two groups. The best acts are always scheduled last, n I missed one of my Faves, James Montgomery. It's been too long since I got to enjoy a show.

Yay, I made it to Day Off finally n can put up the throbbing feet. The weather's a bit cooler at least, tho still very humid. Not really beach weather with the overcast n fog, either. I really need rest anyhow.

Sights Just Out the Door

One bouquet of bright orange-red Trumpet Flowers is blooming out in the side yard this week. Last year the downstairs folks pulverized them all with a fence pipe.

These have gently been spent n fell intact onto the ground off of those two yellow seed prongs. It's so much more enjoyable for me than seeing them smashed to smitherines...

In the five-gallon bucket up on the deck, the trumpet vine in the Vincias has shot up to about six-feet in hieght suddenly this year. It's been there over ten years. I wonder when it will finally bloom- It's next to another unknown shrub that sprouted in a container n was saved years ago, still waiting to mature n bloom also. That blue, plastic container lid is my cheapo bird bath / watering hole. It's ontop of a covered garden supply tub on wheels. just outside the front kitchen window.

Mischief always likes my chair better than her chair. She's next to the hot pink Petunias n light pink Impatiens on the small deck section outside the door.

Here's half of the front deck with about five little evergreen trees, n violet, red, n dwarf violet petunias, unseen blue pansies, n alot more Impatiens. The Marsh grass is having it's first yellow summer ever- I have no idea why. That depresses Mishief because she likes to eat it when it's the normal green...

I'll have to get some pics soon of the other half with the beet greens going wild under the hardware wire, n more pretty blossoms n plants. They are all covered to keep the squirrels n 'possoms out. I'm grateful so far we've avoided getting hail alot of places got last week.

I'd like to spend alot more time loafing around admiring the pretty growth of all my bargain annuals (I spent under $5). but mostly I just water n dead-head them, (I got a dish full of Petunias on my table) n read a few chapters out here on Day Off with Mischief inbetween laundry hanging.

I wonder if Summer's half over, or half full?

Dodging Raindrops

A refreshing cold front blew thru this evening. I dashed out inbetween thunderheads for errands, n stopped to examine the pretty clouds in that sky break I keep getting over the M-cove.

As I got back in Little Truck for the ride home from 3 stores, n putting air into low tires, the lightning just started up again, n another down pour began. Tonight after a very hot week, I finally got cold enough to turn off the house fans which had been on high settings.

I'm hoping to get in some quality outdoor time hanging laundry out n mowing tommorrow. But I'll take a few minutes of sky-show anytime I can get 'em...

There was another severe storm watch with tornado warnings in the western part of the state again Tues with power outs n damages. We got the lesser storm section here. Right at sundown, the clouds broke over the M-cove again! The pic was taken Tuesday on the way to errands.

I'm so relieved another grueling work week in the stifling heat n humidity is over! Going into work early this summer has me unrested, plus I'm having bruised body-aches with bad sinuses again. I'm still trying to catch-up on the put-off errands from last payday. My list is long n furious to catch those store closing deadlines on Day Off.

The dunp run for smelly trash is first, the Market for refrigerated food is last (closes at Midnight). Mischief needs Flea drops, Little Truck needs fuel treatment. I need to save some grocery bux at the The Dollar Tree, n get to the Post Office too.

The laundry n lawn are also in need of attention. I'll be happy to get any of it done at this rate- really tho, I just want to rest!

These are good, close bird pics for my old Digi-cam. This goose has lost her mate, n has adopted many additional goslings who are growing fast. I saw them from the D-bridge last week.

The gull was wave watching at high tide with me last trip to Fav Beach. Sometimes tasty tidbits roll in, n you got to stay on the ball or the other birds will get it first.

Beach Break

Today I got my entire body in the bay! Yay!
It was 90 degrees F, tide was high after 5 pm. I found my swim suit, my old, wear over it, "Calvin" t-shirt, beach glasses, n the old sand chair, which used to belong to my Mom.

The tough part was finding non-dust-mite harboring towels to use. Finally found some packed in an airtight bin. I need to wash everything I use within two weeks of wearing to avoid a rash reaction, unless properly stored. Sometimes I'll take something out but it will make my face itch immediately- so I can tell If I shouldn't use it. I tend to pack laundry in clear plastic bags, n some storage bins.

Needless to say I still have piles of summer stuff to wash, towels next! If I want to swim tomorrow, I'm out of luck...

This afternoon was hotter outside than inside. It wasn't difficult to get Mischief in off the deck. She only gets out on Days Off when I'm at home, so I can keep an eye on her. There are so many dogs near by recently, she's been good staying upstairs. If there's another kitty tho, she'll start a fight.

It was a perfect swim day at Fav beach. Not too windy, the waves not too rough. Not alot of folks that late on a week-day. Only had to dodge a few horsefliesm n luckily made it without a bite. It was peak High tide, n the normally shallow zone was over my head, the way I like it. I'm good at treading water n floating round a long time. Swam under alot too, that's where the cooler water was.

Some older folks set up next to my chair while I was out in the water.

When I got back, the old gent kept saying he was 82, n his wife corrected to 83. He couldn't believe she didn't bring any food. I had to apologize I didn't either. Then he told me about how during WWII when he was 15, he n a friend took a rowboat out to the sandbar at 3 am one full moon night! He didn't get in trouble cause his dad had been off to war- A time he'll never forget.

What's neat is, I first saw this spot when I was 15 too! My friends n I walked down the rocky shore here from a summer house one night. Some places always stay special, n you always come back... even if it's just in dreams...

I'm very greatful for my hour at fav beach today-

Busy As a...

After having to wait all week, I finally got to go back out in the daylight on the deck today.

This past Friday before work I got stuck in a dilemna.

In a hurry to get done fast, I went out the upstairs outside door n quickly set down a water bucket next to the closed door n went around the corner to look at the flowers on the other deck section. When I turned to go back in there were about a dozen hornets swarming in tight circles about the bucket!

It occurred to me that I was trapped with no way to get back in the house, or downstairs without going thru the hornets... I'm allergic to bee stings.

Since I've lived here that's never happened to me before. I'd previously sprayed around the deck with "Shoo-Fly" repellant as I do each spring. Usually that keeps the bees from nesting up here. Threatening a nest would be the only thing that would rile up hornets like that, because they're very territorial. I've done alot of past Bee research...

Rooting thru gardening supplies out there in a covered barrel, I found an old bottle of plant pest insect spray, almost empty. I took off the spray nozzle top, n tossed the remaining liquid near the door, ducking back put of sight around the corner.

Then the available bug spray was all gone, n didn't stop the hornets from milling round. What else could I use? So I started throwing water from plant watering jugs on that whole section of deck- Also did not deter them!

Finally, I decided to hold my cloppy flip-flops instead of making sound, gathered my courage, n I ran past the bucket down the stairs, while jiggily pouring out a water jug held over my head all around me- It worked!- Not stung, n not followed down off the deck, either.

Still had a big prob tho... No keys for car or other door, no money, no phone in my pockets yet! Not even a drink of wake-up tea! But now wide awake alright- heart pounding outa my chest too!

I saw the "R" summer neighbor on her porch, n asked of she had bug spray to borrow, but no luck. Other neighbors were out somewhere. I needed to leave for work soon or be late, n was a heavy traffic day too, on the holiday week-end- I felt pressure to hurry n think to solve the prob for myself.

What else could I do? There was a string-head mop on the downstairs porch.

A plan formed in my head to hold the mop out ahead of me to divert the hornets attention, n go up the stairs to try to get in the door. Quietly n slowly I went up the stairs. Part-way up, as soon as I could reach the bucket with the mop, I quickly pushed the bucket further down the deck away from the door, n rushed back down to the yard. the hornets were still crazy for another ten minutes while I watched them from downstairs.

Finally, they simmered down with the bucket out of their way, n I couldn't see many around. Once again holding the mop out ahead of me n flipping the strings about, I went up the stairs, spotted clear air to the door, grabbed the latch, n quickly ran in! I made it!

I quickly checked all over me for insects, n the mop too. Tho it felt like things were crawling all over me, I was clean- success!

Another "I'm alive!" episode in my life, n I solved it all by myself! Immediately I thanked the Creator n the Angels for helping me out.

At times like that I always want to eat chocolate Ice cream... but I had to hurry out the other door to get to work, which I did instead. I had to use the downstairs door all week, until I finally got Bee spray, sprayed after dark, n then had to wait another 24 hours before feeling somewhat safe using the door again.

I finally got in another sunset from the D-bridge too. I'm finally getting to that ice cream today too! It's been a very long, busy week...

Green, Red, n Blue

What I like best about the rotating mirror effect is how it tends to create unusual faces. Most notable to me in this example is an upsidedown Lemur head. There's no way to tell what it will reveal depending on colors n forms or which pics will work better. I waste so much time doing these...

At the beginning of the month on a rare sunny day, I spied two-toned leaves sprouting on the red Maple tree near the Boat Ramp beach. It was so pretty next to the blue sky highlighted in the sunshine.

Plants near my road are way behind the normal summer schedule. I bought some discounted Petunias n Impatiens for under a dollar each at the market, n finally re-planted them today when we didn't get the forecast thunderstorms. After being dead-headed n sitting in the rain all week, they're already coming back n sprouting blossoms. Most of the deck plants are growing slow too.

Huckleberries started ripening n I got some free today out the window. They go from red to navy blue like Mulberries, only smaller. "SnaggleTooth gets Huckleberries" is just so cartooney, n really odd here next to the blue pig with the red nose, ears, n shirt, along with this reallty serious looking dude...

Trees truelly are a wonder, along with this finding.

Crazy Week

Every summer the blogosphere noticeably slows down. Even my posting has gotten lighter. Once the weather finally breaks, everyone gets out to enjoy outdoors. It's been still fairly cool n rainy here, up until this week.

The Week-end visitors are making themselves noticed around town.

On the way to work yesterday, the car in front of me stopped right in the middle of the D-bridge just to enjoy the view! They should've gone ahead another twenty feet n pulled over in the little dirt parking area... Not everyone is off for the week-end enjoying a leisurely Sunday drive.

Then there's the nasty to navigate main state road with splits n one-ways, where 5 route inter-changes have confused folks from the right suddenly cutting me off for a sudden left, while I'm in the correct lane for continueing forward. A slightly un-nerving daily hazard now.

At the gas station yesterday were two young men on motorcycles argueing over if they were supposed to go route 495 or route 25. I didn't even hesitate to speak up n interrupt with the info that it was the same exact road, re-named as it approaches the canal. I sure got them to stop argueing in a hurry... I need some peace before I start my hectic, long night of chaos.

After the week-end are the easiest order nights all week. Summer-time's here tho, n the population has doubled (maybe tripled). With schools being out n the part-time residents on Cape, plus vacationers, even easier nights are no longer easy to get thru at work. We have to take advantage of the surge, n rack up extra hours while we can.

We're fast approaching crazy week here, known as the 4th of July week. It's the pinacle of crowded n congested, It begins deflating again right after the fireworks.

The whole world seems to be on holiday, except me again! While bloggers have slowed down recently, I'm no exception. However, it's due to being overworked the next few weeks. Prob I'll get to some more pic posts for you tho... n my reading will slow too. I'd like to be laying on the beach reading, but I'll at least dream about it!

Another crazy summer order work week-end is zonking me out. It's warm again finally, I may wear shorts for the second time this year...

The Bruins Hockey team won the Stanley Cup this past week. Alot of local folks were excited about it this week. One work guy got to go to the big Duck-boat parade in Boston today before work. A ton of folks got to camp out all day up there.

I had to work so late the past few nights I'm not sleeping much again. I'd turned the tv on before the parade, n managed to sleep only those 3 hours of coverage, so I missed the whole thing. I was Off Weds to see the end of the final #7 game at least. I only really pay attention to hockey because I used to watch it with my Dad in the old Days. I find it easier to watch on tv than other sports.

Back in '70 n '72, I went to the Boston Garden with Dad a few times n witnessed Bobby Orr, Phil Esposito, Wayne Cashman, Derek Sanderson, n Gerry Cheevers Teamwork in person. I remember the names off the top of my head. This year I don't really know the current names without looking it up, tho know some faces even with the rally beards.

It feels good to have a winning local team once in awhile. I think it helps some folks be happier, 'cause even if you can't win, sometimes your team does, n gives you a reason to be enthusiastic, n celebrate. New England teams have had a good run the past several years, definately a perk of living here...

Just wish sometimes I could celebrate with everyone else instead of working all week-end...

Heating up

We're expecting 90 degree F heat in the New England zone the next few days. June began with cool days tho. I finally got most of the fans washed, openned up the storm windows, put down the screens, n removed the plastic winter insulation. I even finally sprung for some $2 ice cream to put in the freezer. I've been wanting some for a very long time...

I'll be eating mostly soft food for awhile- my tooth n ear-ache problem is more painful again this week after it had been somewhat better last week. Maybe the heat will help a bit- I've noticed cold aggrivates my ear alot, especially after I'm in the walk-in freezer at work.

Weather forecasters are also predicting high ozone levels, which makes my asthma act up more.

Thursday my work station prob will be 110F degrees over the newly cooked food... First another Day Off tho. Don't know if I'll even be up to a beach walk or mowing, but I'll play it by ear, if my ear let's me! Hopefully I get to toe-dip at least.

I got another SD card very cheap. Good thing, sunset was sure pretty again last evening... Would've been a shame not to take pics of it!

Color Speaks

Yellow was stuck in his throat. He couldn't think of words to utter as The teacher pointed n said, "Your turn..."

On the spot, he'd always had trouble with. All eyes were on him. The air became too hot, sweat poured off his head n hands. He studderred n stammmered, "B-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-ut-tt..." He tried again. "I don't know what color wave lengths n emotional state has to do with what we are trying to communicate."

He stood there feeling choked-off from his thinking, short-circuited, n disconnected.

"I'll never make it through this Public speaking class-" He thought as he sat back down. "It's upside-down of who I am!"

Wearing loud colors shouts "Here I am! Don't ignore me!" to others, I notice .

I think my earth-tone preference in clothing suggests my yearning for peaceful harmony with my surroundings, not drawing in much extra attention to myself. I usually wear alot of blues, purple, browns, duller greens, n burgandy reds. I'm uncomfortable wearing colors which attract bees such as yellow, orange, n brighter reds. When performing in a public show type role, tho, I do tend to wear brighter hues n more accents. My clothing depends on the occassion n weather. Color does play a role in how we are perceived, I believe.

Daily tho, I'm comfortable in pocketed Jeans, t-shirt, n an over-shirt with buttons n shirt pockets and/or a hoodie. I like plaids of mixed colors. I don't wear floral prints as a rule, n avoid polyester n clothes with latex touching skin, such as spandex, (allergic). I rarely like the colors of the clothes at the store in my section.

A beautiful, warm, sunny Day Off finally! If only I hadn't needed to sleep thru most of it. The pollen is proliff- erating, n my head-aches n sinuses are getting a work-out. I can't afford the good sinus pills this week, so Benedryl will have to suffice, n it makes me too groggy.

I enjoyed a minute sitting on the deck stairs in the sunshine with Mischief this late afternoon before the insects dive-bombed. It seems all that rain for weeks has resulted in a bumper crop of stinging bugs, thick swarms of them... everywhere.

After a very down-sized errand run, I went for a walk to the D-bridge for the sunset. Tiny no-see-ems were all over me, but I managed to stand still for a couple pics, like this one. Another very pretty sunset over the M-cove. The best parts of my Day are always the free ones- The worst part is always the latest tooth-ache, plus an ear infection this week, no doubt aggrivated by pollen allergies n no good sinus pills...

I'm so glad my crazy-order work week-end is finally over! I'm pathetically exhausted. They used to hire someone to do half of the summer order increased workload, but now they expect me to happily do it all on every busy night, in the spirit of getting more done with fewer people... I'm supposed to happily run myself into the ground like this so I can't function in my free time. You know, being so grateful to even be employed n all...

So today was extremely low-key. Between feeling sickly n the current penny-pinch, I really can't do much. The only payment plan offered by the electric company was timed to be paid the same week as rent, which is currently busting my butt.

I'd like to get more done. I need to dis- assemble n wash all the indoor fans now that it's getting warm. I want to see if the old, Sears hand-power-mower for the lawn still works. All the deck flower pots need to be re-done. Weeds are filling in all the soil. Not many resident perennials have come up in the containers yet. I planted some pansy seeds late, n they haven't sprouted. I'm putting off so much. Lately it's enough just to get through laundry.

My neighbors are so so good at keeping up the constant motor-mowing. My ears can't deal with it this week tho- so I have to close the windows on it. So much motor noise. Tons more autos, boats, n motorcyles around this week as the summer weather brings down many summer folks.

Tourist time on the Cape has begun- I just hope I can keep up with it!

My errand run was timed perfectly to coinside with passing over the D-bridge at this pretty, day's end sight of the M-cove. I clicked just a couple pics of the gulls before my memory card reported being full.

I'll soon delete some lesser desired images for some useable space, but will be cutting way back until I can get a new card. Glad I got in this mini-vaca shot at least... so restful... time for a nap!

On Friday I awakened to a flash of sunlight at the window, the first in a very long time. I ran to open the window up n grabbed the cam to record the blue between MapleBeard n the pollinating Huckleberry tree. Ah, that pretty highlighted Blue n green...

Figures it had to be a workday... N I had to hurry n get going. Folks were flocking out doors to experience the brief brightness we were being graced with. Teen-agers in shorts sauntered down the road, n the roads were crowded as I drove to work.

There hadn't been another day in weeks I can remember being not totally overcast, and/or rainy.

The blue being reflected off the water of the boat ramp beach thru the trees was a rare spectacle to behold also.

Can't wait 'til I get a chance to soak up some rays sometime.

... Now back to our program of clouds n scattered showers for Day Off again...

Good thing I saved a few pics of non-rain stuff to look at, because Rain Toad is getting a work-out these days...

This year I had to touch up the paint on Rain Toad, due to many bright white scratch marks, n possible gnawing around the edges.

I'd remembered similar color-themed, permanent, Pantone Markers bought decades ago for a college art project, n went to search them out from the old shelves out back. Years ago I was taught to store markers on their side to last. N wow, can you believe the over 20-year-old markers still worked?! I was amazed n greatful they did, as it made the scratch covering quick n painless, plus, they weren't ready for the barrel yet after all- (They were 4 bux each).

I noticed more, similar toads this year at the store where I'd got it, but none with the water meter, which is my fave feature. The old tube also cracked on one side, so I used wateproof clear tape to patch it so I can still get a reading.

Which reminds me, that Mississippi River flooding is unbelievable! So many folks are put out of their homes. I heard they closed the river to barge traffic too. Yet another excuse to raise prices of goods. Also, Lake Champlain where I vacationed as a young child, n near where My mother grew up, is way past flood stage. I wonder if the Connecticut River is next...?

I'd thought the Coral-eyed Phlox look a bit rough there, now it's totally beleaguered! At least it survived the winter in it's container. Now the Lilacs are blooming unseen in the fog. Today I didn't even get out in the daylight due to feeling under the weather. Between tooth-aches n a stomache-virus it's amazing I'm even blogging...

Well, it does kinda feel like the end of the world when you can't even get a comment posted on blogger for over two days! All the Coms I did on Weds evening got erased too.... No posting either...

You know it's bad when Lynn hasn't been able to post her good things for Thursday! Then I noticed on her side bar, some folks had been able to post during that day- N I wonder if they were prescheduled ones?

Had it run on longer I may've gotten over to Tumblr to play. I'm thinking that's the next step- so if this happens again I have something all set up there as an alternate. Still I feel like blogreading was a waste of time without the comments... But I did get to do Jannies at least! Surely there are plenty of Blogger Defections taking place out there...

When I saw a recent news spot about "The End is Near" type ads, I thought the story rang a bell about something which happened awhile back... So I did a little digging.

Billboards have been going up around the world to warn folks. Some people in "Project Caravan" have given up their regular lives to spread the message to everyone they can, a noble n perhaps futile mission.

The group's 89-year-old leader, Harold Camping, is the president of the Family Radio Christian network. Mr. Camping was a civil engineer who used mathematics to decipher numbers in the bible according to a formulae which he devised, is thoroughly outlined on Wikipedia.

His web site explains why scripture lets us know that some will know when the end is coming, btw.
He incorrectly made the same prediction for September 4, 1994, n stated he'd made a mistake which he's corrected for the current prediction. That's why I'd heard of it before!

Members of the Project Caravan believe the date will begin the Rapture, n the world will officially end on October 21st. They believe if they re still here after that day, they weren't picked, n will suffer the months of torture with the rest of the damned folks. Some members I saw on tv news have stated they expect an Earthwide earthquake on that day, beginning on the Greenwich UK mean time line.

I have now done my part to warn everybody, just in case.

Now, if I actually believed that the world ends the 21st of this month... What would it change about my current plans?

- I won't need to get MB a card for her B-day on the 22...

- I won't have to bring my trash to the dump or recycling as soon as I can. Let the pile build!

- I can stop worrying about how I'm going to suffer due to the electric bill payment plan all summer from this past winter's heat bill.

- I won't need to pay any bills at all, or worry about the deadlines. Not saving up to make rent frees up some funds-

-Hmmm, maybe I'll take all that bill money n have a big ole party... eat cholesterol laden ice cream with whipped cream n order a blooming onion from Chili's.... all the stuff I tell myself I can't afford to do.

-I could run up a huge phone bill calling all my old friends n it wouldn't even matter!

- Probably I'd sell some stuff that isin't needed short-term, n buy presents for folks with it, so at least they can have fun for a little while before it's too late.

I'm sure you can think of what you'd do differently, or things I didn't think of yet-

Mom's Day

I hope today all mothers are fondly remembered. May all those flown from the nest get to connect with home again, don't forget to call, n show appreciation for all given thru the years. On Mother's Day I really miss my mother. I think every one who still has one is very lucky! Even if she does know just how to get on your case.

My Mother raised five children. I don't know how she did it, but she sure was strict! You just didn't dare to cross her, n she managed to make you do everything she wanted you to. She was a strong n opinionated, brave woman who taught us to stand up n fight for what was right, n to help every one we could.

Tho She's been gone over ten years now, I can still hear her voice in my head, n most fondly remember the sound of her laughter. Back in the year 2000 I made her a free web page n started collecting some things there to always remember. The page is still up in case we need a family recipe quick. One of the sections is "The Kitchen Wall," where in her house we always read the plaques given to her as gifts over the years. The following is from one plaque:

Fifth week in a row of cool, overcast skies for Day Off happening here! Some recent workdays were perfectly sunny n warm, making me very wistful for free, unrushed time in the sunshine lately.

I've been having a very low-key week if not for the historical demise of Bin Laden. So I feel something really huge is going on out there, while I have no effect on it what-so-ever. All the media hype is driving me crazy, so good thing for the dvd collection. This week I've been watching the old "Firefly" series again to be ended with the "Serenity" Film. Almost seems like the TV I'd rather watch. New series not featuring reality shows, cops, bodies, n lawyers on my few free primetime evenings is too much to expect from major networks, apparently. (I only have basic cable channels).

This week I'm really glad I don't have a Sony Playstation. If my game were bumped off-line, I'd be going ballistic... I bet many hooked folks are, due to the latest new info compromise. I'm still too paranoid for facebook. When online bankcards first came out, the local Cape bank made me change my card three times due to possibly compromised info. They soon after went belly-up, n were taken over by a large Bank. Guess I've always been overly suspicious of the on-line vunerability issue. I resisted being forced online for applications, accounts, n payments as long as I could but must do some. It's easier but there's always a hacker out to get every new, better thing. Recently, google made us give a phone number to recover stolen accounts... (that made me nervous, too!).

Speaking of new things, Maplebeard is finally pollenating. My ears are ringing, eyes stinging, n the head-ache comes n goes. Good thing for allergy pills or I'd be totally non-functional. Always time to take the groggy benedryl on top of the other 24 hour pills now, until those trees are done. The pollen starting into high gear always slows me way down. It'll be a slow few weeks for me because of pollen.

The rain today is washing the pollen off of Little Truck. Turns out the folks downstairs messed up the hose water valve in the basement, so I can't turn it on until it's fixed, unless I let the basement flood. I tried tightening all the fittings, but it still spouted. Then I had fun getting it to shut off again. How to waste several hours of free time in one should've been easy step.

I'm really allergic to pollen, so without the hose, now I'll have to carry water out with me to rinse off Little Truck's door so I can open it every day. I might throw buckets of water off the deck occassionally to rinse it too. Getting to work without getting more sick will be challenging.

It'd be nice if just one thing about what those folks did downstairs didn't cost me more work n time! (Is that too much to ask?) Now, back to cowboys in space, as opposed to trigger-happy cowboys on the news...

Foggy

The good news is it was 62 degrees F today!

The bad news is it was so foggy n drizzly out there. This is the fourth week in a row all my Days Off have been wet. I decided it couldn't wait any more, so I put on vinyl gloves n picked up most of the bottle-caps, broken glass, n stuff in the backyard.

Mischief wouldn't come outside with me, or even on the deck. Maybe it was the smell of the bee-repellant I put on the deck under-boards earlier. There's part of a small, paper-wasp hive under there from last year I'm hoping to stop.

The lawn grass is just beginning to get new, green shoots. Some of the shrubs are beginning to sprout leaves. I still need to clear leaves from the periwinkle area, which should bloom soon. Lillies of the valley on that side are sprouting buds already.

I made stick piles to pick-up when it's drier out. I saw the tulips coming up again, after being absent last year. I'd moved stuff from the folks downstairs off of them last week. I hope I can get to the rest of the yard clean-up before the tree pollen comes out. I'm sure those head-aches will be severe...

I'd wanted all of it done at the beginning of the month, n here we are on the last week of the month already- My ambition has been far ahead of my energy level after an increased workload.

Still, I can't seem to ever get enough sleep to make up for the last two years of deprivation. Rain n fog always make me feel like hibernating. At least a few things got done under soggy conditions.

I passed the M-cove n stopped for these pics on my way out to errands. I like how the otherside of the cove dissappeared. I hope you enjoy the presented transformations. Spring's transformation here has begun... under the fog.

I had a "Stupid Directions" encounter the other Day.

They were on sale for two dollars, so I sprung for a Hungryman Frozen Dinner, Microwave, Chicken Strip Meal I've never tried before. As a rule, I rarely eat microwave food.

The directions stated:

"Cook 5 minutes

Carefully remove the brownie

Continue cooking ... Let sit..."

After trying to follow the directions, I suggest changing them to:

"Carefully mangle the brownie,

(which sticks to the container.)

Eat desert first... Cook the rest longer..."

(At least the chicken was edible)

Ever run into totally impossible directions to follow?
