Halloween Time

It's the great Pumpkin patch, Charlie Brown -
Note the basketball on the left in the shot to use for a pumpkin size scale indicator. This patch was spied in someones yard near to the beach here weeks ago.

This year for Halloween I will try not to be ticked off I have to work n will miss all the fun with young ones I know.

I'll bring some assorted hard candies to work for everyone, n that will be the extent of my planning. If I dress up, what I wear would be ruined for other place wearing in that one day, due to the messy nature of my duties.

Don't know how picked this altered foliage one off the stick folder,
n can't find it again! Won't let me put text next to it either! Must be possessed...

On Halloween night this year the news has reported to expect an asteroid, predicted to flyby Earth at about 300,000 miles distance. The moon is orbiting about 240,000 miles out according to my old college astronomy text, In Quest of the Universe, Karl F. Kuhn. Hopefully the distance away is enough to not cause a problem.

I always wonder at the accuracy of these estimates.  My work product count estimates are always very close, at least!

Sadly, of all the campy decs outside at the house, I've been identifying some empathy with this caged spirit the most.

Also the "Fall Back" for Daylight Saving time is scheduled for Halloween night, so the ghosts can get in a spare hour of booing and / or moaning.

A slew of clueless workers may be early for work Sunday, too. Actually, they don't even have to worry about clock setting if they are reading SmartPhone time. I'm probably the only one who isin't... That IS scary!

Different Styles

When I got up Saturday about noon, the open door of the bedroom across showed a compelling n mis-leading view.

There on the beautiful, shag rug was a huge pile of straw / shavings around a block with a ripped apart top, of what looked like stuff to use in a hamster cage.

Up on the bed-cover was a group of sleepy felines. My initial thoughts were that it looked like the usually very playful cats had clawed up the block n created the mess on the carpet. No one was around, so I grabbed the cam n got pics, thinking the person who had the room would flip out upon seeing this-

Posting the pic with the caption "Well, our work is done here, nap-time" flashed thru my brain.

I'd had little uninterrupted sleep that day because of the person's visiting grandkids noise. Then when folks came in I found out it had actually been the older pre-teen child who'd made a scare-crow dummy Halloween decoration for the yard. Upon them returning from a ride, her grand parent in a regular tone just told her "That was an out-side activity." She went out to play with the dummy while the grand-parent got a shop-vac n cleaned it all up for her.

It occurred to me that not only were our kitchen habits opposite, (hers in a dish-pan, waiting to wash later- Mine washed not left in the sink,) but I told them that a big difference between me n that grandparent was, I would have made the offender clean her mess, so she would learn not to do it again. The youngster did not catch any flack for that mess at all. She learned she can get away with it, n not even offer to help a little cleaning... At least she should learn to use a drop-cloth before beginning messy projects.

Some people don't bother solving problems, n are doomed to more of the same. I always try to remedy future problem repetition.

Some folks are driven crazy when I suggest actual solutions...
Everyone likes dealing with kids their own way.
I guess some folks even like those bumpy pumpkins!

Falling Whispers

Falling into new routines

Keeping pace with change.

Leaving as the leaves fall

Chasing winds follow me.

Chilly thoughts as Winter

Whispers "Quick, hurry up!"

Tough like Duct Tape

..........................
  funny Rypo-typo:

"figuruin"- What most people do between September n January over the Holidays, being lazy n over-eating. It ends in January when everyone decides to diet for the New Year.
............................

Hope everyone has a good Columbus Day long week-end. Mine will be full of extra work, n I'm still worn out from last week.

I'm still working on tracking down my orange bins with last years decs in a box here somewhere. Still need to dig out warmer clothes, hats n mittens to wash. We've only had a handfull of cool days so far, n managed yesterday without the hoodie for errands. Only a handful of leaves, mostly vines are turning color this week.

Image by SnaggleTooth Oct 2015My list of to-dos is getting longer as the days shorten with less day-light. Not getting anything noisy done all night while I'm awake is really slowing projects down. Moving n sorting thru boxes at night is too loud. Doing laundry is too loud, even cooking n doing dishes is waking up folks.

I so want nightly internet, dvd movies, n early am guitar playing back in my life again. I feel like a sound prisoner... n my impulse feeling is to rebel.

I hate being stifled because it reminds me of my entire childhood at home n going to Catholic school. Now I have to be quiet at work n home too. I hate to be told what to do in my only free time.

Can't wait until I'm back in an autonomous situation again.

MB sent me a card she made using duct tape to my new address. Here it is on my table keeping company with some October decs; a battery-power pumpkin lamp n elec candle from dollar tree, an orange seahorse figurine from the Red Rose Tea Nautical collection, n a topaz colored teddy bear charm given to me from a Little One (who's now taller than me) n shares my birthstone month.

What's Missing?

Two months worth of rain fell in a few hours here, but at least this town is well set-up for water drainage. The dry stretch we had will help the ground soak alot up too. From drought to flood, with no inbetween. Now we're on Hurricane Roulette watch on the East coast. Around the town bays here I notice most boats are still in the water. It was almost 80F out there today for my walk still. I'm sure that won't last long  as we turn the corner into October in New England.

Work threw it's after Summertime, "Tex Mex" BBQ last Saturday. So I started my workweek getting home around dawn the shift before, then not sleeping more than a couple hours n going back early to grab some food to save for after the next marathon workshift. They raffled off giftcards (I didn't get one), n we all got a free T-shirt along with our missed sleep. There were soccer balls n a football. As usual I took candid pics n still need to see how they came out. Card reader Finger-Twister time again.

I need to get all the old BBQ pics off the old machine in storage sometime. I want to print some n make posters on a color copier. More time that so often alludes my project list. I'm so good at the ideas n bad at getting it all done in a timely fashion when it's all I can do to get prepared to go back to work again. Of course, now is the first I've even had time to think since my work-week is finally over.

I had another bad tooth pulled on this Day Off, so I'm not speaking today. In preparation for not eating much during recovery throbbing, after work I'd made a bagel dough pizza covered with garden tomato sauce, Mozzarella, onions, n shredded Pepperoni. I can only have cold foods until tomorrow, so I have some bananas, garden cuke salad, jello, n pudding all ready for later if I get hungry. Shopping will be very light this week.

The new kittens are settling in, playing with the 4-month-old ones, all getting along ok. Tag Team Kitten Soccer matches with little, tin-foil balls have been amazing entertainment, as the older cats let the tiny ones play for five seconds before stealing the ball for another swift chase across the linoleum. So good of them to give the small ones a turn on purpose.

I got to steal several quick peeks at the Lunar Eclipse "Blood Moon" from the back door at work Sunday night. I'd never seen one like that. Glad I got away with it n didn't totally miss out.

Pics are from a beach excursion down the street from here. Close-ups of an upside-down baby Horseshoe crab (deceased), and a broken Whelk shell found by the water there.
