Captive Audience

The past few weeks for two days per week I've been listening to a radio with ear-buds at work. I had a $10 coupon for Radio Shack located nearby so got a small, digital very inexpensively. It's been about a decade since I've heard public radio on a regular basis.

There were portable, "Boom Box" radios blasting when I took the current job. Funny how I used to resent listening to other folks preferred choices before I recently started to miss having any music in my day.

At work there's been no music allowed for several years now. when a certain manager is in charge, so on his Days Off for the longest time I'd been watching everyone else with music sets without joining in. I think the monotonous stuff I do is about 20 times easier with tunes to move with.

I've made a few observations. There is only one station  that comes in at my workstation. 102 FM. "Classic hits all the Time." Almost all the same tunes used from the oldies were the same ones I heard on WROR growing up as current hits.

Elton John seems to have cornered a market in Radio-Land. I wonder if he signed away his royalty rights to "Tiny Dancer," because it plays everyday, several times. I'm also getting pretty tired of hearing the Eagles constantly. I seem to have purchased cassettes or CDs of most of these hits in my distant past too.

Some one I know working at a Cape Hospital said 102 FM is the only station they get to hear at work there. So I'm not the only captive audience.

Altho I dislike not having music to work with most of my week, at least I don't get utterly sick of it, as I tend too when you're stuck with easy-listening piped in stuff. I recall one very long elevator ride in Boston awhile back to the 32 nd floor, stuck with orchestrated Beatles- without vocals! For me, that's the worst thing ever...

Are you captive to radio music sometimes, or do you get to choose with an ipod / mp3 player?

(Too much lightening to go online at all last night, had alot of NorEaster rain here, n flooded roads today. TG it was my Day Off, without pressing errands.)

Indian Summah

A stellar day....
Windows open, out to errands in a t-shirt, humid n even hot! Balmy breezes under a partly sunny sky. Maybe the calender needs to be adjusted with all these seasons beginning n running late.

Too bad for the head-ache n body aches. I just wish I could've gotten up 6 hours earlier to enjoy all this warmth longer.

Yes, the leaves are still turning n falling off in crispy litter, but my deck garden is still alive with some late blooms. When I was out watering plants with a flashlight last night, I spied a little Bumble bee snoozing on the Cosmo.

The cluttered storm drain took some time to clear with the rake n shovel in preparation for the expected drenching rains for Thursday. At least I have the option of not having to go out in it.

I'm grateful for the reprieve before it's back to shut windows n paying n arm n leg for heat.

Total

Total aggravation

Total eclipse of the Blood Moon

Totally blocked by clouds

Totally rained out.

Total waste of time

Total waste of knowledge

Totally'wanted to see it

Totally psyched then bummed

Did you get to see the lunar eclipse? I totally couldn't. It seems I've been cloud blocked by everything celestial that I was awake to observe this year. But I shouldn't complain because I did see  two shooting stars on separate occasions that weren't part of the scheduled meteor showers I missed due to cloud cover...

On another tack, ("Annabelle Lee," sailors get it), I ran into someone I know still doing newspaper crosswords. Some folks just really like those, but I don't think I've ever filled one all the way in. I always miss a clue or three, n always write in at least one wrong answer, because I always guess.

The person surprised me because they googled for an answer on their smart phone! Apparently, new phones have changed cross-wording problems...

What I used to have the most fun doing were the "Mad Libs" found in the old drug store news racks. They never failed to amuse me.

This stuff is all online somewhere now too...

Octo

Getting some substantial rain here in drought country finally. A good excuse not to mow the lawn, n not to go walking without good reason. Plenty to do inside, but motivation to begin is tougher in the dim conditions.

News said the Electric company will be increasing rates by almost % 40 beginning today. How does that stuff get approved by the state regulators without taking lack of resident income increases into the equation?

At this rate I may never plug in my 200 watt Amp for the Elec Violin, or, Mandolin, or Guitar. Certainly I'll hesitate before turning things on. I'm about to take everything out of the surge protector bars except the tv, computer, n phone. So the cd player, chargers, ect will become a hassle, just like turning on the water heater for showers n waiting has become...

Bills n food just go up, up, n away- making it difficult to survive as it is. I really have nothing more to cut back on with the electric besides the refrigerator, but not spending on a new one yet. I'm already shivering just thinking about the minimal heat I had in here last year...

Certainly it won't leaf me with much...
