Pumpkin Guts

Image by SnaggleTooth Oct 2010 .
On Halloween this year I'll be working. I won't be dressing up in costume due to the fact anything I wear will get slopped on with goo n ruined.
.
My decs from years past put up this week are spartan. A couple little scarecrows, hanging ghosts, n spiders, plus a few flashes of orange to remind me how I used to enjoy this holiday, especially the decorating at my Mom's old place, which was a large house.
.
.
I invented flying paper bats, dummy's hanging by the neck dripping blood , n a chest in the hall became a coffin with newspaper fashioned skeleton hands coming out. It was always a fun, artsy project when I was young. I also recorded my own sound effects on a cassette player.
.
This year I'll miss the fun, especially hanging out with the Little Ones. Someday soon I hope the economy perks back up so I can get better income, n get my family holidays back to enjoy. Meanwhile, it's back to spending more time at work than home, n getting very sore again- (already there n the third heavy order in a row next-Ugh!).
.
Image by SnaggleTooth Oct 2010 .
Think when folks ask what I am, I'll just say "Zombie" n that'll be accurate without dressing up!
.
Hope ya like the pumpkin costumes...

Spooky Tricks

.
Ghost cat siamese twin
In another plane of existance..
Scarier than a black kitty
Climbing the steps of reality.
.
A mouse could never win
Against such odds of paws, mouth, n claws.
Even dogs would run away howling,
Each half planning, pouncing, n prowling.
.
Mischievous meowing-
Spooky tricks found me n follow me.
Into the Twilight Zone of strangeness
Into my attic of altered pics...

Yo

Photo by SnaggleTooth Oct 26 2010
.
.
Another week has gone by, racing down the end of October towards the Halloween holiday. I won't have time to do much for it, due to again having massive holiday orders n having to work the week-end.
.
Day Off weather is cloudy n a bit foggy, tho warm in the 60's this week. The heat's off, n the windows are open to enjoy it. Here's the woods across the road from the deck this afternoon.
.
Photo by SnaggleTooth Oct 26 2010
.
In the side yard next to the "R's" house, the Huckleberry tree, several vines, n a small Maple tree are conspiring to make a pretty combination.
.

.
.
Out on the deck, most of the planters are up against the house in preparation for cold weather insulation needed for some to rise again in the spring. Maplebeard's recent sheddings are plentiful, tho only partially complete.
.
Clouds n rain showers are expected next, so it's doubtful I'll get much yard stuff done except for raking the storm drain. Once the Oaks across the road start tossing heaps of leaves, it can be tough to keep up that drain chore.
.Photo by SnaggleTooth Oct 26 2010
.
.
Maple Beard's got that amber hue going on n tumbling down.
.
Wonder if I'll get around to digging out n cleaning decorations. So far I've only got the natural ones...

Bow Lines

.
.
.
Apply texture, change colors, rotate image 180 degrees, then put up the rotating mirror... Voila`!
A cute grey alien... unless you see something else...
.

.
.
.
I was at the pier last week. Here's a 35 foot fishing ship bow, with anchor lines neatly stacked, n the harbor's "W-Island" off the starboard bow. Rumor has it, the island is haunted by native spirits. There's currently four buildings on it, privately owned (cost 4 mil bux), n accessable only by boat. In 1980 there was a big fire out there. A neighbor has night pics of the huge blaze.
Have I previously mentioned this village used to be a Wampanoag summer camp?
.
Have a fun week!

MapleBeard

.
.
Ever since I saw the second LOR trilogy film, "The Two Towers" I've been calling the large Maple tree out front near the kitchen MapleBeard, due to the face n arms visible on the trunk just below the deck. (Face with snow).
.
Above is Maplebeard taken out the kitchen window nine days ago, with just a hint of turning leaves.
.

.
.
Here's MapleBeard yesterday morning, in the partial sunshine, with yellow n crispy browns coming on. Most of the top leaves are falling with out being as vivid as in years past.

UnFriendly

Photo by SnaggleTooth Oct 20 2010
.
.
A chat at the laundrymat today revealed that Tuesday last week our local Friendlies restuarant near my village closed down. Chalk up another empty spot to the nearest Shopping area.
.
They put in a new "Express" spot across town in the newset plaza near my job where so many others have already gone.
.
What was wrong with the way they did this was not to notify anyone, including employees, in advance. They came in for shifts n were told that day was their last. All those folks out of work! I heard from an ex-waitress they were told by the manager it was a corporate descision, n they couldn't do anything about it.
.
There are alot of folks, n retirees here without vehicles who walk or ride the bus. The place here was a favorite spot for many of the older set, n parents with young kids too.
All those regular, daily customers with no where to hang out n visit their friends...
.
They had no problem taking faithful customers money, n using the profits to downsize n take the place away from all those counting on having a spot where they were welcomed.
.
You're not welcome anymore, unless you can get ten miles across town, n there'll be no where to sit n chat, either! (I won't go there-)
.
What does this do for the "Friendlies" corporate image?
(They need a new name...)

Painted Sky

While the sun was setting over the M-cove last Day Off, over on the opposite side of the D-bridge this was the sky scene over the B-cove. Nothing defines space quite like high-dotted sirus clouds.

Seeing Red

.
.
.
My fave local wild holly (I think) vine is sporadically turning red all over the hill this week finally. The colors are noticeably tamer than in previous years.
.
.
.
Of course my color n pic playing is much more vivid... I'm not sure what exactly this could be! (I just like it).
.
.
We're getting a windy, drenching NorEaster currently. Looks like a washed-out week-end! The puddles are forming pools from the leaky roof at work. Maybe I'll try to sell "Pool Passes" again...
.

I climbed up the hill the other day in search of my Twisty Twig from last spring, n maybe this is it, (Tho uncertain from the different angle here), draped in Red Oak leaves, One of the first trees to turn color on the crest of the hill facing the D-Bridge n the M-Cove.
.
.
.
When I walked the path thru the woods back home, the light was fading fast, but I took more vine pics n most didn't come out well. I like this color next to the dark tree trunk, tho! I think it gives a better idea of what I'm used to seeing these vines look like each fall.
.
Well, back to some wind n rain for awhile... (I'm really not angry about it).
Have a good one!

At Last

Photo by SnaggleTooth Oct 12 2010

.
(Yes Day Off wasn't raining this pm! This is the M-cove this evening)

.

Finally the Chilean miners are being rescued one by one- Seems miraculous! The National news broadcasted the first two rescues off the 33 who've been trapped over 60 days in a mine. I must admit, I get emotional watching. It's the first time ever of this type of rescue, compared by one live reporter (Bill Weir) to the rescue of the Apollo 13 crew.
.
This anticipation n wonder at seeing a survivor emerge against such slim odds, actually reminds me of the "Baby Jessica McClure " coverage in June 1987, which I then witnessed via tv. A little two-year-old toddler who fell down an abandoned well shaft was wedged in a nine-inch pipe for days. A crowd of helpers n heavy equiptment soon assembled, camped out, n after several days finally pulled little Jessica out, dirty, but without serious injuries. I remember that elated feeling seeing her emerge alive. How it felt to know about the many who volunteered n committed to do the task. n did not give up until it was done.
.
Seems not unlike this instance of so many nations rallying to work together to help the miners n their families far away in Chile in the middle of the desert. The isolated spot has recently become a camp village in the limelight of the rescue effort. I bet the emerging rescued are in awe of the activity n assembled crowd out there for them.
.
To me, this rescue is an important historic event we should have access to witness as long as the operation takes. I would like to watch each miner emerge from the steel tube. I find however, that the USA major public network news (nbc, cbs, abc, fox) have decided to stop broadcasting the rescue live after the first two. I only have basic cable programing, (cnn n msnbc are now expanded pay service), n the only station I can find continuing live coverage on the event is the Spanish channel! I just watched the third man come up, n barely understood the reporter. I know very little Spanish, (better than none?).

In Your Eye

.
.
.
Some pics are so awesome to begin with, I shouldn't try to improve them. This is the original used for the versions posted below.
.
Yes, you guessed it, another sunset off the bridge at the M-cove. It was taken in October last year. I'm obsessed with aiming Digi-Cam into the sun, because with old SLR film cams- n VHS movie cams, these shots would never come out! You'd just get a lens refraction spot.
.
I'm pic challenged so far this month, with downpours on all my Days Off so far- Tho I did take some pumpkin shots outside at the market- but I'm still playing with them. I've only taken over 2000 more pics since last year, n made them into even more with multiple effect versions! N here I am bemoaning a slow pic week...
This pic always Cheers me up. Instead of this pic that day, I posted that one taken a few minutes later.
Happy Week-end folks- I'll be working...

Rypos Gee! Not G-Rated

.

.

.
Hold onto your Funny-bones- Here comes the seventh version of saved, mis-keyed wordage! This latest batch has been saved since June 2010 until this week.
Some were fixed before publish, or after. In other folks comments tho, they remain forever.- I save to a Notepad file n re-read it often for personal entertainment. When the typos are sufficiently ripened with my commentary, they're finally unleashed as Rypos upon the unsuspecting online victims, ...er- public.
.
Most entries appear as phrases, sans punctuation. In this "G" edition, instead of waiting for a "Creative Minds Guess" Definitons Post, as it was done in Version "F", I've added mostly comments or a definition directly after the entries. Rypos appear in chronological order.
.
.Invention of weird, new words or inappropriate language always surprizes n embarrasses me. I always enjoy wondering,"What is that?" Mostly this quarter, I just used the wrong real words with a slip of the key fingers... (Oh No! Look what I did this time!)

Last Fall

.
.
Doesn't this abstract color image boldly state Autumn without actually having recognizable form?
.
I haven't taken any October pics this month yet, so I went digging in Last Octobers pic file, n found an unused example to alter today. I also realized while searching, that this month last year is when I began to regularly post altered images here, tho not with the current frequency you've come to expect.
.
.
The three-foot-tall sugar maple tree was in the front yard of a small school house next to a pond where I was taking folliage shots on the West side of town that day. It was brightly colored n I thought it would make a good fall shot, but never did get around to posting it. Now, I like the abstracted version even better!
.
.
Of course no altered image post would be complete without the really wierd n wild version. So here for the strange factor is a color changed, rotating mirrored, n spiky halo applied piece from the same pic. I like the eerie feeling it gives me. (so many pairs of eyes...)
To me October always means Halloween...
